Note: I can not stress this enough. Problems like these are not common. And I do not believe they "creep up" on you either. Do not let such discussion dissuade you from the most proven hair loss treatment on the market. EVERY drug has a small percent of people who have problems. Some people can't even eat Chocolate. So please keep rational, moderate thought in mind. The proper approach to take with Propecia is very simple: Try it and see how you tolerate it. If you have no problems at the 30 day mark, you are probably going to be completely fine on it. I truly believe it is the guys who have side effects and continue taking it, that end up doing damage. It is not some "phantom" syndrome that just appears without your awareness. If you have problems on Propecia - you will KNOW it.

A new research study has begun, investigating Post-Finasteride Syndrome sufferers by Dr. Ann Ganzer of Hunter-Bellevue College and her association with the Neuroendocrinology Department and associated physicians.

This is actually two surveys. One for guys who have taken Finasteride. One for guys who have never taken Finasteride. The questions on the latter may seem a bit strange, since you've never taken Finasteride. But just answer the questions at face value. They focus on body image, anxiety levels, etc.

The goal of the research group is to determine if there is a predisposition in Propecia patients with certain personality types before ever taking the drug, which may influence their response to side effects. The ultimate goal is to establish that those who do end up having problems long term, aren't imagining things. To get doctors to start paying attention to them more, and allowing them to get help.

Dear Forum Members,

We are looking for participants for an on-line research study investigating the psychological effects of Propecia (Finasteride) on men. To take part in this study we are looking for men who have taken finasteride for male pattern hair loss.

It is our hope that through research we will learn better ways to treat this illness and raise awareness of Post-Finasteride Syndrome among health care providers. We very interested in trying to find out why some men that take the medication Finasteride for male pattern baldness experience severe psychological side effects including anxiety and depression both while on the medication and even after they stop it for months, even years.

Over the past several years we have seen an alarming increase in the number of patients that experience significant cognitive and psychological symptoms. In an effort to understand why this happens we are collecting information pertaining to these specific problems with the hope that we may determine some associations. This is an anonymous survey.

For those who have taken Finasteride: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PostFinSyn
(partially completed surveys accepted)

For those who have not taken Finasteride:https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MalePatternHairLoss
(Should you choose to complete this survey please complete the entire survey as skipped questions make it difficult to interpret the data.)
