Baldness & prostate cancer:

That study likely just proves that higher DHT levels = higher prostate cancer risk. If so, that's not news.

It's like saying, "A new study found that people with higher metabolism are at more risk of starving during a famine."

Yeah and its also the norm in medicine that they can tell us we are at higher risk for protate cancer, yet nothing can really be done about it anyway. Change your diet and hope for the best is the normal answer

So, I guess finasteride is the saver from male pattern baldness and Prostate Cancer after all ?

finasteride is a "saver" from benign prostate hyperplasia. It makes you more vulnerable to high grade prostate cancer.

Actually this is controversial, as you probably already read. It does reduce prostate cancer but it makes it more difficult to spot it when you have it, and when you have it it is more aggressive. You should tell your specialist you take propecia when being examined for prostate cancer as finasteride can screw up the results.

The leaflet reports:
https://www.medicines.org.uk/emcmobile/medicine/3679

What else should you know about Propecia?

Finasteride can also be used for a type of prostate problem called ‘benign prostatic hyperplasia’ or BPH. Information collected from a clinical trial in men taking finasteride 5 mg (a dose 5 times higher than Propecia) for 7 years showed:

  • the number of men who developed prostate cancer was lower in men taking finasteride compared with those taking nothing
  • the number of men who had a high score in a tumour grading system was higher in some of those taking finasteride compared to those taking nothing
  • the effect of long-term use of finasteride on tumours of this kind is unknown.
If you would like further information about the tumour grading system or this trial, please talk to your doctor.

Bald men are more likely to develop prostate cancer, heart
disease, hypertension.
And there is no cure for all of them. scientists make our life much easier every day :(

@offtopic; Bald men are more likely to develop f*****g depression and anxiety due looking on hair fallen out during the shower insteand looking on them sitting and shining on your bald head. Life would be easier without f*****g miracles.

@on; Being honest, when i was on finasteride i could piss easier. I think i am gonna test myself for bhp next days. I am worried about myself last days really serious.

Finasteride doesn't increase high grade prostate cancer, it just makes it easier to detect because the prostate is smaller. I can't believe people are STILL quoting that erroneous study.

High grade prostate in finasteride users is a correlation. Finasteride is not the cause. Just makes it easier to detect. Non finasteride users have have just as high rates or higher of high grade prostate cancer but it goes undetetected more often due to larger size of prostate.

I think you didn't read the article at all, and you can go after more detailed papers by Dr. Ian Thompson.

What they found was that it DOES NOT make you more prone to high grade cancers.. What happened was that people taking finasteride, had their prostates smaller and thus easier to detect the high-grade cancer which would otherwise not be not detected.

This is because they were making punctures to get tissue samples. Well, if your prostate is smaller the chances to hit the tumor with the needle was higher, and thus the higher chance of a DIAGNOSE. People NOT TAKING finasteride, could also have the high grade tumors, but NO DIAGNOSE.

Read my reply to the other guy. And, there is also more recent information where they go over the data and realize that it DOES NOT increase the risk of high grade cancer.

Besides that, the study only indicates an apparently higher risk for an aggressive form of prostate cancer and not the other forms as well as only for a certain balding pattern...
The answer to this is just one post above...

can someone explain the 6,1 % vs 5 % target safety data?
I understand that is slightly above their expactation but in the next line I find something about that 70 % showed 14,1 % more density. What is the difference between the 6,1 and 14,1? The latter is the density and 6,1?

they meant average change in hair density among all the candidates when they mentioned 6% v/s 5% growth
but when they said 14.3% they were only considering 70% responders.
i hope this clears up.

It is really no longer a question: Sheseido will bring us the "next gen" hairloss treatment first

I do agree.

They have the Japanese law on their side and we know that the treatment does have efficacy; logically, we should see better results from their Phase 2 trial.

The pieces of the puzzle are coming together for this to be available next year.
