just buy regular Nizoral 1% at your local store. It's cheaper.

Heh,

If you live in Canada you cant buy 1% Nizoral.
I have never seen any but at Costco you can get the 2% for 18$ (for two bottles).

nizoral doesn't block any dht as far as i know. there really isn't a sure reason why it works but in a study it was found to work about as well as 2% minoxidil at increasing hair counts and thickening the hair. that's why nizoral is part of the "big 3" regimen advised on here coupled with finasteride and minoxidil.

Nizoral's active ingredient is ketoconazole. Dr Lee's regrowth treatment shampoo is 2% ketoconazole mixed with salicylic acid which he claims promotes better absorption. I'd think that nizoral would absorb fine by itself and it is a waste of money to buy his shampoo.

1% ketoconazole was found to be as effective as 2% so you might as well just go with that like I said. I am in New York like you and you can buy a 7 oz bottle of Nizoral for $15 at any local supermarket chain or pharmacy. You may even be able to find a cheaper, just as effective generic version right next to it.

You should use it every 3 days, about, and lather it into your scalp. Leave it in for 5 minutes and then rinse it out. It works fine with spironolactone because you don't apply spironolactone in the shower. Just towel your hair dry and then you can apply the spironolactone.

Ketoconazole works because it inhibits the 17alpha-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase enzyme which is part of the androgen biosynthetic pathway. It causes the 17alpha hydroxylation of both pregnenolone and progesterone. Without it, androgen and estrogen synthesis is impaired.

Just throwing that in there for fun.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, using Ketoconazole really doesn't make any sense. That enzyme doesn't even exist in the hair follicle. Oh well, I'll look for a better explanation.

DOUBLE EDIT: Yeah, it's anti-inflammatory in the scalp, which is something that really needed to be dealt with as I see an abnormal immune response to fibrosis of the hair follicle after apoptosis hair cells being a big problem.

Nizoral is a fungicide but also an anti-androgen

not saying that your wrong, just copied thois off lee's site.

Regrowth Treatment Shampoo contains 2% ketoconazole and 3% salicylic acid, so it has the combined benefits of Nizoral 2% shampoo and Neutrogena T-sal. It helps prevent the synthesis of DHT in the scalp and will likewise help to control dandruff. Like all other products featured at http://www.minoxidil.com, it is a prescription item.

also with minoxidil, does that actually make u grow more hair or it just makes left over hairs appear inflated?

minoxidil mostly thickens hairs that have not miniaturized completely. It can occasionally regrow new hairs from dormant follicles in some people, but usually not to their full original length.

Dr Lee also claims that his minoxidil with azelaic acid(Xandrox) inhibits 98% of DHT, but has provided no real evidence for that claim. He is a salesman as well as a physician so keep that in mind.

Its probably referring to ketoconazole's action as an anti-androgen, when he mentions DHT. People speculate that keta's antiandrogen effect is the reason behind Nizoral's hair growth capabilities. But remember these are quite modest

yes, but it is an antiandrogen and apparently a good one.
