His hair has thinned a lot, and now he is more desperate to try stuff, but he still cautions people to hesitate about propecia. Don't let that happen to you. Many people on this sight wish they had started finasteride and minoxidil sooner.
$6 each.

collegechemistrystudent said:I agree. Take 1mg per day, at least until you thicken just a bit. You can take 0.5 if you want. It really won't make that much of a difference. Talk to your doctor like Felk said. Your doctor should tell you propecia is safe, and if not, then your Doctor is an a**. Only a small fraction of doctors are against Propecia. Ask for a prescription for generic proscar (5mg instead of 1mg of active ingredient, same manufacturer, different purpose), and tell your doctor you will cut it in fourths with a pill cutter ($5) and take 4 every 5 days or one every day. That is $6 per month for the same exact benifits and safety as propecia.
To get a prescription for 30 proscar every 4 or 5 months, copy and paste the following into Word, print, and give it to your doctor:
-----
When people take propecia, maximum blood concentration of the active ingredient finasteride is reached in 2 hours and then drops off quickly and is near zero in 2-3 days after a single dose. Since blood concentrations vary so much anyway, it does not matter if you cut the pill perfectly. And since DHT levels take several days to return to normal after a single dose because most of the 5-alpha-reductase is gone and takes time to rebuild, the day you miss is not an issue.
Also, you can take 1.25 mg/day if you want. Incidences of side effects will be almost no different. When Merk chose a dose for Propecia, they found that 0.2mg/day regrows 82% as much hair as 1mg/day, which regrows 83% as much hair as 5mg/day.

collegechemistrystudent said:Felk. Sorry I said you recommended people not to take finasteride. I was mistaken on that part. If i remember the last page right you have been off finasteride for a month. I have been on this site for only a month, so I think that is why i thought you were affraid of the drug. i've read many posts where you said you did not want to get on it and were researching many topicals. i looked back at your post and you recommended he see a doctor to put his mind at ease. when i first read it i thought you were saying he should see a doctor because my facts can't be trusted. I was bothered by that because I know that a small percentage of doctors think finasteride is dangerous and won't prescribe it, and I did not want the newbie getting led a stray by that.
I still disagree that minoxidil does not repair hair as well as temporarily lengthen it. I agree that most of the hair regrowth from minoxidl is just a multiplier effect and goes away quickly upon sessation, but i also believe that minoxidil does repair or at least protect blood vessels from immune system attack. For that reason, I think you are making a mistake by not starting it sooner, since finasteride does not protect you completely from DHT.
As for my recommending BOTH finasteride and dutasteride, I was not recommending newbies to use a full dose of both. I was recommending them to use a much smaller but still effective dose of REAL, trusted finasteride from their doctor, as a back up while taking dutasteride bought overseas, in case the dutasteride is fake. The advice was for people considering dutasteride. I wanted to make sure they did not spend years on a fake, and they already said they can't afford name brand Avodart in their country. The two drugs do not have interactions, and I am recommending only 3x per week use of dutasteride, and I am using this myself and know it is safe.
