Receding Hairline? High Temples? Thoughts?

More conservative than lazy. Plus, I’d rather see a specialist who is more apt to make a diagnosis.

Lol. A diagnosis of hair loss:

- are you a man?
- are your corners receding?
- do you have any other health issues like thyroid problems?

If "yes, yes, no" you're balding and should start finasteride.

It's not rocket science but i get what you're saying.

Yeah, I get that. But to the average eye (even my general doctor’s), people say I’m crazy to think that I’m balding. I’d rather see someone who can better see the early signs. If she does/doesn’t think I’m a good candidate for finasteride, I’m more likely to trust her opinion.

A little finasteride never hurt anyone lol. You do need it bro.

I guess I’m just having a hard time accepting it along with a hesitation to take medicine that I potentially don’t need — my temples have always been high, and I’ve never analyzed them this closely before. I’m relatively anti-meds, so if I won’t benefit from something, I’d rather not take it.

Anyway, I took some post-haircut photos (below). Are the light hairs along my hairline a sign of male pattern baldness? I’ve always had them so I have a hard time believing that.

Update: I finally saw a dermatologist. She said I was not receding, but I'm going to continue taking monthly photos. I'm still on the fence:

She. That's the key word here. What would a woman know about male pattern baldness? That's a receding hairline bro and we all know it. What you decide to do is up to you, but my recommendation is finasteride.

And what would a male gynecologist know about childbirth? Your sexism is showing, bro.
It wasn't a sexist remark, a lot of Dermatologist's don't know sh*t about hair loss, especially the women because they don't experience it nearly as often as men do. Interpret what I said however you like but that is a textbook receding hairline. It is minor yes but it is what it is. Sorry for answering your question

I had no problem with your opinion on my hairline. That's why I posted the request. I was offended by your overtly sexist (yes, that was sexist) remark...and now your followup generalization. Regardless of how familiar or unfamiliar she is with hair loss, I certainly trust her med school education and training more than your opinion. I hope you're able to keep some sort of a filter on when talking to women.

Moving on. For anyone else who wants to comment, I forgot to include the below look at my hairline from three years ago. My temples have always been high, so again that complicates things. I don't have any up close photos from that time frame, unfortunately.

Not sure what further input anyone can give you. Sounds like you've made up your mind tbh. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

Any thoughts on my temple areas?

Dude honestly to me it looks fine. My dad has the exact same hairline as you ever since he was 27 and he’s 62 now. Your hairline doesn’t even look like it’s receding that much, but that’s just my two cents.

Thanks. I was feeling a little better until I got my haircut yesterday...now I'm not so sure:

Remember if you have gel in it, then it could look thinner. That seems to be what's going on in the first pic at least. Your temples look fine IMO. The one of the left just looks like a cowlick. Perhaps your hairline has matured and it is now more visible. The side of your head looks thin but that's probably the flash on the camera. I wouldn't get paranoid about this. Taking occasional pictures is a good idea. But if you are scrutinizing in a mirror and can't tell if you are experiencing male pattern baldness or not, you probably aren't right this instant. That obviously doesn't mean that it will never happen or it couldn't happen soon. But don't jump on a medicine for a problem that may or may not exist. I'm sure you want to catch it before it becomes visible to the untrained eye. But you are clearly paying attention and aware, and I'm sure you would notice before it got bad. I am in a similar position. I'm very hesitant to jump on medication, but worried about thinning after a recent bad haircut. I'm just gonna keep taking pics every month and occasionally asking for advice. You are doing the right thing.

Sorry - somehow missed this. Thanks for your reply. I spend so much time analyzing the temple area that I drive myself crazy, so it's helpful to get a second opinion. I have a followup with the hair transplant doctor in January, so maybe in a full year he'll be able to see something. Just trying to stay ahead of the game.

Bit of an update: I thought my male pattern baldness stopped at my receding temples. But after seeing a photo of the back of my head, I decided to take a closer look, and I can’t tell whether or not my crown is thinning or if it’s a cowlick. Thoughts?

Your crown is fine and your temples look barely receded. Your 26 or 27 now I doubt you will have noticable balding at any point in the next 15 years, maybe ever, but that’s just a guess. You will probably continue to recede very slowly on your temples, I wouldn’t take Finasteride unless it sped up suddenly if I were you. Just my opinion

Question:

So I’m considering starting the big 3 next month, and I want to have a baseline to compare over the next year.

Since I’m mainly concerned about my (what I believe to be) thinning/receding temples...are the small/white-ish hairs at the edge of my hairline miniaturizing? If so, is there any hope that finasteride or minoxidil will bring them back to life?

First two photos are from January 2017. The others were taken earlier this week.
