Hi guys,

I’m 33 years old and have experience a gradually receding hairline since my mid 20’s. My hair is very thick which only makes my balding temples stand out even more. Over time I’ve noticed it’s hugely affected my confidence and I’m very self aware that my temples are on show.

I am considering getting a hair transplant but I have some reservations. A friend has recommended DHI and I have been quoted 1200 EURO for this to be done in Turkey. My main reservation is if I get a new hairline I will continue to recede behind it over time so it may look good temporarily for some years but at some point surely it will look ridiculous having these patches at the front where the transplant took place and hair loss behind it?

I’ve been in touch with quite a few different hair transplant clinics both based in the UK and Turkey and whilst they are very encouraging but at the end of the day they want my money so I’m looking for more impartial advice here.

Has anyone got similar experience?

Cheers

Andy

If you aren't on finasteride or dutasteride then don't even bother. Most doctors will not work on you unless you have been on them for at least one year. I have seen some guys in your situation get alot worse in their late 30's and older with no medications for hair loss so you may be right about what you fear.

Interesting.. I’ve read many people have hair transplants without taking medication full stop let alone 1 year in advance.

The problem is that you are looking at the hair mills that want your money and do not care about your future. As @DoctorHouse wrote, forget it if you are not going to take finasteride or dutasteride rest of your life. You will fight a battle you are going to loose. You will then have a lot more surgery just to fix your baldness and the donor is not unlimited

My main concern is the hair receding past the part I’ve had surgery on. I’m aware medication like finasteride will slow down the process of hair loss but it won’t stop it completely. That being said surely it will look unnatural and obvious I’ve had a hair transplant when I’ve got a plenty of hair at the front where I’m currently receding and losing hair behind it and possible in other places like ontop..

It's all about risk and immediate reward. You can buy some happiness for a certain amount of years now until you start to lose it again. You can always transplant in the new areas as long as you can. At least you know the possible risk so the question is how much do you think the transplant will make a difference in your life. For me, it won't change much so I hesitate.

I know it’s difficult to say but how long do you think it would last if I had it now before I’d start losing more?

Are you losing a lot of hair on your pillow and during showers? If you're not shedding and your hair is thick, than you're a perfect candidate for a hair transplant. Without finesterade. You don't need it. Even if it recedes a bit more you can go back for a touch-up. If you're diffuse thinning that's when you need finesterade. You don't seem like you are.

No, I don’t seem to be losing loads but my hair is shorter now so maybe just not as obvious. My hair in general is very thick. You can see in the photo attached where the hair on the temples has completely gone and in the middle you can see where the hair is thinning so you can clearly see the next phase of where it will recede to..

Yeah if you're not thinning in areas where recession isn't happening and the donor is thick, you don't need finasteride. You can do a transplant and within 2-3 years some new medications will be out to treat further loss/recession that won't have some side effects finasteride can have. Your recession is pretty slow honestly. I don't see you going bald ever. It's the diffuse thinning , extremely thinning hair and minitarizing hairs that require finasteride.

I would see a hair specialist and get their opinion. And go ahead with a transplant unless recession isn't bothering you. You can always go back for a touch up. Your donor hair is going to be enough for a second one, easily.

Interesting although that completely contradicts what others have said here

His hair is no where as thick as yours. For your situation that would be fairly good advice but his hair loss situation is alot worse than yours. He needs finasteride because he is diffusely thinning all over.

I’m thinning at the front not all over.
I guess you just have naturally low density. How does your hair look when it's all wet?

As per my previous post my hair is thick. People always comment how dense it is. It’s just thinning/disappearing at the front

I'm diffuse thinning, my hair is extremely thin all over scalp lol. His is just at the front. I wish I had his hair. I would just do a transplant to improve hairline and be good for life.

Ok so here’s so photos with damp hair pre shower. The reason I have come to this forum is because I want honest opinions. I feel like I’m not getting complete honesty with hair clinics as they simply want my money at the end of the day so of course they will all encourage it. Also reading reviews I’ve found many suspicious ones so difficult to deceiver which is a genuine review and which is fake (presumably created by the clinic being reviewed).

As I may have previously mentioned I’m quite sure if I got the surgery I could get my front hairline fixed but I’m concerned that as time goes on that hairline will remain with good hair whilst I continue to recede behind it. The obvious answer is “well you can always go back to get it fixed” but I’m also aware there’s a limit to how many times you can do this. I have plenty of hair follicles at the back so whilst I’m sure I *could * go back a second time if needed then what after that.. at some point I can’t use any more donor hair so then I’m worried I’ve got this weird looking front of perfectly formed hair whilst thinning/balding behind it. Am I overthinking this or possibly wrong even?

As I’m 33 now do you think I could recede much further over the next 5-10 years?
