Receding Hairline And No Idea What To Do

Hi guys,

As you can see from the pictures, I have pretty bad recession on both sides, and it seems to be getting worse pretty quickly. I'm a 41-year-old male and I first noticed my hairline was creeping back at the temples when I was in my early 20s. It seemed to stabilise for a number of years (without treatment), but has begun receding again in the past two or three years - and I think it's getting worse pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure it's starting to recede in the middle section now too.

I like having hair and don't think I've got the head shape to pull off a buzz cut! I can see people looking at my hair when they're talking to me, which isn't a good feeling :(

I've been putting off doing anything about it (probably a mistake) because life is so busy, but also because there appear to be so many options - including hair transplants (££££). I'd be interested to hear if there's a consensus on the type of treatment open to someone with my level of loss?

Thanks for any advice at all - I'm getting pretty desperate here and not sure what to do.

If you can't afford a transplant then your best bet would be to look into the 'big 3' (finasteride, minxoyl and nizoral).

Growing back the hairline is notoriously difficult, so it may just be a case of maintaining what you already have, which in my opinion, for a 41yo is pretty good.

Your first step should be finasteride. Honestly I don't think people are looking at your hair line at all, its all in your head! Even if they are looking its not because of your recession, its because they are jealous you still have so much hair at your age. You still got good hair :) finasteride should help stabilize your loss.

Thanks for your votes of confidence guys. Much appreciated.

I'll look into finasteride and hopefully that'll help.

Considering you were balding since early 20s, having that much hair after 20 years of slow hairloss is pretty impressive imo. If really want to keep it I would suggest finasteride and maybe minoxidil.

Norwood 3. Finasteride would be a good idea to maintain your current hair.
