You shouldn't be workout out after a hair transplant anyway, so no need for the protein shake.

Whey protein, however, has been shown to increase IGF-1 levels.

Do we really need the amount of protein in the shakes, though?

I read - can't remember where - what we can only digest around 8g of protein per hour so the rest would simply be wasted (and is the cause of the protein farts people get!). Any truth in this?

Whole food protein is digested at around 4-6g per hour (10g for whey), but it's not "wasted". Protein is still available and is being absorbed up to 10 hours after the meal.

I've always had whey protein ever since I've been bodybuilding. Usually I mix my shakes with fruits and almond milk, though.
