jfrank, trust me, you won;t be bald in nine months. I've been shedding like a dog for eleven months, with only a couple of weeks that there was less fall out. Still, to my initial surprise, i am not bald.
Okay, my hair density has become less and i've receeded quite a bit during this period, but there are some signs that things might improve in the longer run (new vellus hair, etc).
From time to time i grow desperate and i tell myself that finasteride is not working. But then i realize that you need to persist and give finasteride its time, 1-2 years to make a final judgement. Be patient. Hang on!

thanks for your imput j25... in the past 3 months my hairline has receded like crazy... (3 months ago it was perfect) it seems to be happening overnight.. i dont even worry about the constant shedding, but when i look in the mrror each morning a notice that my once dense hairline is being plucked out every day. it worries me.. i'm like norwood 3 hairline already, and going to 4 very very quickly...

ps: 3 months ago i was NW0 hairline.......

its frustrating not having a digital camera, but i just recently visit hairlosshelp.com.... There was a guy with a post (first one in general discussion - rant).. my hairline looks like his at some of his worst pictures... and i got that in less than three months from a perfect hairline..

PS: out of curiousity.. can overdoing rogaine accellerate male pattern baldness? hear me out... i used to dvide my hair in sections and drop rogiane in those areas.. they would leak to the hairline where it would collect.. i did this for a month.. ya think i created some some of infection that is making me lose more hair than i should?

re:

There is no published data and very few (and no confirmed) examples on this website in which finasteride or minoxidil made the situation worse. You are in a panic as you are having to take all this dam medication and are dealing with the realization that your hair is falling out. You have made the decision to try to save as much hair as possible by using the only FDA approved hairloss treatments and the regime that most experts 9and people on this site) recommend. Have comfort that you are doing all you can and all male pattern baldness treatments take time. You simply must give it more time. I had an awful shed within the first month and paniced, but stuck with it because that is what I read on this website. I cannot say for sure how things will turn out for you, but my hair looks better now then before treatments and I have only been on the big 3 for about 4-5 months.
Again photos are a the best (and perhaps only true way) to evaluate your success or lack there of. Sometimes I see thin areas near my hairline and panic. Then I look at photos and realize that these are not always thin areas, but just areas that used to be bald and are growing sparse hairs for the first time and thus making it appear as thinning..

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not, so I'll ask anyway. We all kow that propecia causes shedding in some people, but can it cause your HAIRLINE to shed?

I used propecia (mainly being proactive) and it maintained my hairline perfectly. Then I got overconfident and quit, about 6 months later my hair was ***, my hairline had completely changed shape. I think my hair is finally stabilizing but it took several months of being back on Propecia. it definitely can "SEEM" like its hurting you hairline but you just have to wait it out..sucks. Learn from my lesson don't quit, from one birthday to the next I had totally shot hair..showed me how well Propecia can work.

It gives the hair cycles adequate time to reach their full potential in a reduced dht environment

so if someone can answer this question.... my frontal hairline shed long healthy hair without being replaced by thinner hiar in the past three months.( during propecia use). is that normal male pattern baldness? or could i expect some sort of regrowth i badly need?

Jfrank, how its even possible? hair follicles just don’t die or stop producing hairs all of a sudden. Even if you have male pattern baldness, your hair gradually become thinner and eventually disappear. However its possible that, many of frontal hair suddenly went to resting phase, but they will eventually produce hair. Anybody else has any thought on that?

I have been on finasteride for a little over 3 months, and my hairline has shed a lot. I have had some thinning over the top as well though. My hairline was the hardest hit though. I'm not nearly a nw3 or anything. When I started treatments I was a nw1, now I'm probably a nw1.5, but my right temple has been hit the hardest.

oh well.. my early morning enthusiam wasnt warrented... just carefully brushed my crown with me hand and pulled 10+ hairs... how bad is that? i thought my shedding stopped...

(and for you who will say 10 hairs is nothing.. i've been sheding for hte past 3 months.... my hairline destroyed and badly receded.. shedding is NOT GOOD)
