Propecia - Birth Defects Should You Use Sperm Bank?

Hi,

My dr just prescribed me Propecia but before taking it I'm trying to figure out what kind of effects can it have on sperm? I'm aware of the main sides that could happen to me but am more concerned about what could happen to a kid.

Is banking sperm something that should be taken into consideration just in case of possible health side effects that could become an issue for a kid? I wouldn't want a kid to suffer with defects because I chose to keep my hair.

Or have birth defects and whatnot not really been documented from Propecia?

Propecia is very unlikely to give you any permanent damage which means your kid won't get defects because of something that doesn't exist. Either way, you should take a break from it when it's time to go. It's a few days for finasteride, maybe up to half a year with dutasteride.

The problem here though is that if you get a kid and he has DS, 4 fingers on each hand and is sick often you will blame finasteride even if it's not done anything to your kid.

I don't think finasteride can cause birth defects, plus there's no scientific proof that it does. As Yakitori said, your baby could still get birth defects even without finasteride.. Its all about the luck of the draw, just like male pattern baldness.
