Can propecia cause loss of hair to the back and side of the head??? Is this temporary? How common is it?

Thanks all.

I heard propecia can make hair shed from all over your scalp, but in my case I was lossing hair both from sides and back even before taking propecia, its my 4th week on propecia and i am still shedding , may be not as much as before. So, I am not sure how it work for me

I am experiencing this myself. It´s not dramatic but it´s rather curious. Since month 3 on finasteride, I noticed that my sides and back are less dense, the hair is not thinner, just more sparse, especially in the low parts of the sides and back (above ears and neck).

I shed millions of hairs daily from the sides and back, and I mean more than 50 hairs every time I shake my hair with my hands. :freaked2:

But, as I said, cosmetically is not dramatic difference.

I´ve read in the HairLossTalk.com archives that this thing could happen, as finasteride can introduce a Telogen Effluvium in non male pattern baldness affected zones. I haven´t read anything that indicates the possibility of no-recovery of this shedded hair, but for myself, I´m pretty annoyed. :freaked:

I´ll wait to see what happens. Rationally, I tell myself that I have to keep optimistic, becouse early shedding on finasteride indicates benefits coming in the future.

But in my guts I´m scared to see my hair in that bad shape.

Any input or simillar cases reports will be very appreciated as well.

Absolutely, when your last hair has fallen out of your head, that's when you know Propecia is working.
