Propecia and Gyno

Has anyone experienced possible symptoms of gyno, but been able to rid themselves of the symptoms or full-blown gyno and continue taking propecia? To explain I'm not sure if what I am experiencing is gyno, but there is soreness in my chest that feels like the day after a good chest workout along with a feeling of heartburn.. Along with that there's a little bit of swelling under my armpits leading out to my chest that feels like swollen lymph nodes. I'd really hate to give up on propecia especially since I've only been on it about 2.5 months and I want to see what my options are in terms of reducing these symptoms and staying on propecia.

On a side note I have been to the my GP and they simply said there was some swelling and it could possible turn into a case of gyno and might not, but she recognized there was some swelling and she didn't say that it was my lymph nodes, but I'm pretty sure that's what she was referring to when she was feeling my chest and under my armpit. She wasn't much help though.. She simply said it looks like you're going to have to choose which route is worth the risk and said that I could simply hop off propecia for a week and see if it is for sure from that.

I figure I could try taking propecia every other day or simply try riding it out and taking it normally and seeing if the symptoms simply go away and is just a case of my body adjusting to the change in hormones.. I guess I'm also curious if anyone has just pushed through sides like this and they eventually just went away?

I figure this board is a lot more knowledgeable when it comes to hair loss medications, their sides, and how to counter them while staying on certain medications than my GP so any suggestions I'd be glad to hear!

I thought I was but I'm 99% sure now it's due to my poor diet, I've literally eaten nothing but takeout food this year, So it's just normal fat. From my understanding when you have Gyno you can feel lump near your nipple as the gland grows, I don't have that so I think i'm fine.

I do also feel chest pain like heartburn and around my nipple it's really unpleasant , it's not a constant thing just happens occasionally . I'm going to monitor it for now it's not really a problem as I have no lumps or it abnormal growth so I can't be sure it's gyno

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. Basically, I'm trying to have a good diet and the doctor assured me that exercises are proven to avoid gyno development. Cardio and push ups can tighten the muscles located on the upper chest and will elevate your metabolism to get rid of the extra fat.

While exercises alone can raise testosterone levels you can lower aromatose levels by taking zinc.

Zinc is a powerful antioxidant, can provide benefits for prostate problems and can reduce estrogen in the body if you take it in the right amount. It's a great way to counteract finasteride sides.

I know it works because I'm trying it along with the exercise, and my sex drive has grown substantially and the chest "feels" have disappeared completely.

My suggestion, according to what I've been told and what I've read you can take zinc every two months, then on the month resting from zinc you can take iron and selenium simultaneously. We may be talking about other health issues now but I thought it was important to mention. Some info here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12487769

Well it's not necessarily fat build up for the moment as I'm don't believe it's full blown gyno yet; it basically feels as if my lymph nodes from my armpit leading into my chest are swollen. It basically feels like a small lump that's connected to another lump and so on from my armpit to chest which I assume are my lymph nodes. Since it isn't really fat I don't think exercise will help reduce swollen lymph nodes if that is in fact what is swollen.

Again, gynecomastia is triggered by a decrease of testosterone in your body compared to the estrogen levels. Right now, there might be a hormonal imbalance in your body. Exercise is extremely important as you'll raise your testosterone levels and suppress aromatase (along with the zinc).

I had lymph nodes as well, and one got infected so be careful with that. Your body may be reacting to finasteride although it might be another problem in your immune system or hemoglobin. I would suggest you to get tested. Selenium and Iron as I also mentioned, will definitely help you in regards to that.

So are you still taking propecia? I'm just curious if anyone has been able to fight off the symptoms or developed gyno while staying on propecia.. If I could do so just by exercising more regularly then that'd be pretty sweet. I've also heard of people taking tamoxifen among other things to block the extra estrogen; on a side note.. Isn't the extra estrogen in the body created from a surplus of testosterone so basically testosterone is converting to estrogen?

I'm not sure. Even if finasteride does increases estrogen levels, it's more of the balance of testosterone vs. estrogen against the reduction of dht if that makes sense. So you might as well keep high levels of testosterone.

About Tamoxifen, it's not a bad idea at all. You should check this out: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9426725

If the problem persists I'll have to print this and take it to my doctor or else I doubt she'll want to prescribe Tamoxifen and even then I doubt she'll want to and she'll probably bring up that it says that it was to help with the prostate rather than hair.

Start with something basic. Take zinc as taking vitamins, every two months, and make sure to take iron and selenium as well for the lymph nodes issue. Remember that zinc is a very effective aromatose inhibitor. Also, get hormone levels examined so you can compare before-after treatment. :)

I took avodart for about 5 weeks and developed swollen nipples, sort of went down and now have gotten worse-I notice after drinking it increases. Also feel the armpit being kinda swollen but it just feels like fat and not any lumps so hopefully exercise can wear it off.
