Do you guys think there is a difference? I started balding at 16 and only noticed it 4 years later at 20; I was the only one that noticed it.

So, is pre mature balding different than aggressive balding?

I would think the younger you start it would indicate aggressive hair loss, but like dante said not always. I do think hair follicles that are sensitive to dht have a predisposed timeline as to which they will begin to "Die". My hair loss started at 32, i got on finasteride at 34 i believe had i not by 36 to 38 id prob have noticeable hair loss. So i guess we'd probably all just be speculating an answer to this question... Im curious now. Im gonna try and find the true answer

When you start to go bald young, it usually means that it's aggressive, but not always. A friend of mine is balding since he was 17 for example, but he didn't get worse than a Norwood 2 for more than 5 years. He's the only one, though; the majority of people I know who were balding before their 20s developed a full horse-shoe before their 30s. Same for me, I started to go bald 4 years ago and I'm Norwood 4 even though I've been using finasteride and minoxidil for years.

I better pray for new treatments then

I'm afraid no valid new treatment is going to come out. Not soon, at least.

I disagree. Histogen/replicel/SM/follica/Brotzu/Other Japanese guy there's too many to fail. Could be wrong but I think histogen will be the first one out

i truly hope so, for everyone's sake. Hair loss just makes you feel awful about yourself and i think it actually can cause physical health problems, because the toll of stress, anxiety, and depression. All three are overlooked alot as causes to a myriad of health problems

I started loosing my hair on the sides (see picture) when i was 18 and it got like that fast.

But i haven't experienced much hair loss after that and im 29 soon to be 30. a little thinner on the crown and maybe a little thinner overall but nothing that shows. Picture nr 2 are from one week ago so more than 10 years sense my aggressive hair loss started. (I got a hair transplant when i was 24)

So it goes to show that there is a difference! I mean OBVIOUSLY the sooner you start balding the sooner you will be bald. I have lost 2 Norwoods in 4 years. For me to go fully bald it would take 12 years to get to a Norwood 6. 12 years isn't agreessive, but since I began at 16 that makes me bald at 28. So I think there is a difference between aggression of hairloss and pre mature hair loss

I started young, finasteride doesn't work for me, etc. It's slow but strong.

My dad is now a 67 and I always considered him to have awesome hair before I knew what recession was. He is between a norwood 2 and 3 these days with zero hairloss at the crown. At age 18 his hairline was straight. Approaching age 30 his hairline seemed to have moved back a little bit, not even close to balding territory. At age 39, classic norwood 2 which he carries all the way to 55. Recedes further from 55 to his current age. Now contrast that to one of his best friends, all the way up until age 45 we are talking deadset norwood 0. Razer sharp hairline lower than novak djockovichs, bang suddenly goes full norwood 5-6 territory in a little under 3 years.

You never know for sure but I think with good family history and a good timeline of progress in the form of photos and general observation, you can make a pretty good estimate on where you might end up. To answer ur question tho, there is varying degrees to hairloss just like anything else in life and that is partly why its so frustrating.

Your hair looks great Mattias, may I ask who did your transplant?

Baldings can be nvr be predicted. One if the thibgs sucks so mich about it. Heres a boxer barry mcguigan. A young photo with good hair.. One at 45 still hair thats decent and then a current photo. Hes been bald yrs now and 55.

Compared to him theres guys who go nw3 by 25 but stay that way to their old

There should be research about this. Very interesting that people can hold on to Norwood-2's till 45 then just suddenly lose it all. It can't just be DHT sensitivity in the follicles, gotta be something else that's going on.

hopefully there will be new research about this in the coming years to explain why blading apears at different ages to different people

Nah baldness is just baldness whether its aggressive or not or whenever it decides to start. One thing is for sure once male pattern baldness starts I would never ever bank on something getting better with age because nothing does. It might magically stop at Norwood 2 but it probably will slowly keep going.
