Pre-hair transplant Haircut Question

I will be having a strip surgery of approx 1500 grafts which will be mostly placed on my hairline area and above. I currently have a pretty good head of hair except for the fact that my hairline has thinned and receded and my crown is thinning as well. The hair on the back of my head is approx 1/2 inch long and near the hairline area it's approx 2". My question is....does hair length affect the procedure at all? Would it be easier for the Dr. in the recipient area if I had shorter hair? What are the benefits of hair length in the donor area or recipient area?

Thanks guys!

Most surgeons will shave both the donor and recipient area during the procedure. Were you not aware of this?

yeah arnold prepare for a proper buzz cut!! With me they only shaved the donor site tho, because where they were placing the hairs on my temples was bare anyway!

Not to speak for your doctor by any means, but chances are, they will not have to buzz your recipient area unless it's super thick density.

Yes they do shave the strip area where the strip is excised however most docs do not buss the entire donor area down unless they are doing larger FUE sessions. If you are going to do strip, you will need a good 1 1/2 to 2 inches in length in the donor zone so once they suture the area closed, the surrounding hair can drop over the sutures to hide them.

Are you taking any hairloss meds?

I'm pretty sure that nearly all the most reputable surgeons believe in shaving down the recipient area. Dr Feller and Hassan & Wong do it and I was told it makes it easier for them to get the best graft placement for the optimum results.

Pre hair transplant

Hi Guys,

I'm approx a day away from my 1500 strip hairline procedure. I'm having it done Friday morning. Thanks for your answers to my question. I have just been letting all of my hair grow and have been gel-ing it in place so it still looks somewhat neat. It's almost the witching hour and I hope my time , money, and pain have been well invested. I am having the procedure done by a prominent Dr. on Long Island. Wish me luck.\

P.S. tried propecia years ago and suffered the lower region side effects. I'm not on any meds at this time. I just want to take the bushes from my backyard and have them grow pretty in my front yard.

I'm 44 years young and although I always train naturally, I'm in pretty good shape.

Armani wants patients to let their hair grow for at least a month. I am not sure if that is because he doesn't wnat people Bic'ing their heads up to a week before the surgery, or he wants to know how people's hair falls, so he wants it a couple of inches. Be better if he told you how long he wnated your hair. I buzzed my hair a couple weeks before the surgery (I forget which attachment, but nothing very short) and he didn't seem to mind.

Just out of curiosity, but why a strip with only 1500 grafts? That is a real small procedure for such an invasive procedure. I had a tad under 1500 but via FUE.

True in comparison to strip but there are a wide variety of financing options. At this time , 7 dollars a graft is the rate.
I mean, 1500 for a strip? That's a huge smiley face on your head for a small procedure. Maybe wait alittle longer if his male pattern baldness is not stabilized and go for a minimum of 2000. Oh well, to each his own.

Arnold's Story

Hi gang. I hear what you are all saying or rather I see. In the my story section, you will see that I have already had the 1500 procedure. It was a strip. The Dr. seemed to think that it made the most sense. I also think he's shying away from the FUE's of that size or larger....too much labor intensive. I look like a pin cushion in the front with a bozo doo and like I met the slasher in the back of my head. All this being said, I think my Dr. was professional and did the right thing for me. I now begin to play the wait and see game (peek-a-boo for you geniuses). Wait till the pain goes away. Wait for the redness and scabs to go away......stubbles to fall out and wait for my permanent hair to grow in. I took a trip to the local Harley Davidson store to pick up a plain black doo-rag so that I can cover the scary stuff from my customers and the general public. My muscles are also shrinking as I wait and see.
