Sooo...

I always see on here that you should never trust female doctors/dermatologists with respect to male pattern hairloss, but up until today I didn't believe it.

I booked an appointment to see a GP (I specifically asked to see her as she's always been good to me and my family).

I needed a prescription for lymecycline for my mild acne which I've been on for 9months and to ask for a blood test to check vit.D and liver function.

I told her I have been on finasteride for 3months. Firstly she tries to tell me that finasteride increases testosterone, then she tells me finasteride stimulates hair follicles, and then she told me that finasteride can actually make your skin oily, thus increasing acne and making lymecycline ineffective.

From what I understand about finasteride literally nothing she said about it is true lol.

lmao. still surprises me how dermatologists (especially females) still don't know enough about one of the only FDA approved treatments there currently are. (implying we have 300+) I remember talking about finasteride to my dermatologist and he didn't even believe what I said. I literally had to show him lol

Yep, the internet is the best place to do research. Thank God we're past the days where doctors were our first port of call. They can't fool us anymore in the internet age we live in.

What do you mean? Your derm is correct. It does raise testosterone initally in many. When I was on it my skin was much more oilly as well. I would also sweat much more due to the excess testosterone.

.No idea about whether it raises T levels initially, but I've been on it for 4months and she was eluding to long-term levels.

.DHT makes skin more oily. Never heard anyone on here say that finasteride makes their skin more prone to acne before - I usually hear the contrary that it actually clears up skin.

1) no, never trust someone that isn't sympathetic about male pattern baldness to diagnose and prescribe medication for male pattern baldness.

2) finasteride can defiinitely increase testosterone. My free test blood results before finasteride - within normal range. After 3 months on finasteride - above normal range.

3) Yes, it can make skin oily, if it's increasing testosterone.

4) I doubt it would make Lymecycline ineffective.

5) based on 1-4 you're fucked no matter what you do. so, try whatever you want based on your priorities. trial and error. role the dice.
