Patchy Facial Hair - Scarring Alopecia? What Can I Do?

Almost 41. For last year or two, I've noticed that my stubble is becoming patchy and uneven. I can still grow a full beard, but it isn't as thick or bushy as it used to be, and my facial hair looks patchy when I've just shaved.

About a year ago, a dermatologist said it isn't alopecia barbae (just by looking). She gave me 1ml injections of triacinolone in two tiny areas. I didn't notice a massive change, but I wanted to go back and do full face with 3ml or 4ml, but the dermatologist declined.

So, does anyone know what this is? What do I do?

Any type of guidance or advice would be appreciated, guys. Please help!

The obvious is minoxidil. Might be some of type of autoimmune problem so that is why they used the steroid. Maybe some copper peptides too.
