p**rn, not finasteride, is probably the cause for your erectile dysfunction

It looks like this topic has been discussed already here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interac...uced-Sexual-Dysfunction-Is-a-Growing-Problem?. But I noticed people aren't really taking this too seriously and still haven't considered that p**rn and fapping, not finasteride, is probably the cause for their ED. I posted my personal story with ED and incorrectly blaming it on finasteride below, but I created this thread mainly to post this video from TEDx that explains this problem perfectly. I highly recommended everyone who watches p**rn and has erection/libido issues to watch it, if you haven't done so already:

My personal story:

Been on treatments, including finasteride, for almost 7 years now. After about the two year mark I noticed my erections were getting weaker and I was having moments where it took forever to get an erection. At first I attributed it to stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise. A few years go by and my ED was getting worse despite the fact that I was exercising and eating a lot healthier. At this point I figured it probably had to do with the treatments but I was too scared (or just vain) to stop it.

Fast forward to about 6 months ago and by this time I shamefully just resorted to using Cialis (which is not only embarrassing for a guy my age, but also a huge added expense). That's when I came across the TEDx video and started doing research on the various other sites and online communities. I figured it's worth a shot so I stopped the p**rn (with a few relapses from time to time) and months later, I'm now back to normal :).

Its true. p**rn will cause ED as well. Its so accessible and easy to watch that people use it as a quick fix, and almost condition their dicks to rub one off real quick.

Also another tip: Don't hump your bed, don't grip your dick too hard. I'm serious. All of this stuff causes ED.

p**rn will cause ED if you want to preform live (my guess); there is no scientific reason/cause that it would cause ED right when you start finasteride..

if p**rn is the cause of ED it should start when you start watching p**rn regulary.. there are guys, who have been watching p**rn for 10+ years, if it is the sole cause of ED, than it should be verry strange to get it when you start the drug..

(not deniying the p**rn inffluence, nor blaiming just on finasteride; ED is common so to blaime it on one thing in invonvlusive)

I am 110% behind this. I gave up all p**rn about 6 months ago and haven't looked back. I was starting to have some ED and libido issues late last year, and coincidentally it was when I was between girlfriends and watching a lot more p**rn than I usually would. When I met my current girlfriend, I had a pretty low libido and occasional ED during sex. She is quite attractive, but the messed up thing is I had to sometimes fantasize about p**rn during sex to be able to enjoy myself and stay hard.

My libido completely tanked when I first stopped watching p**rn cold turkey, but then it gradually came back. I haven't had a single ED issue in the last 4 months, and my libido is back to what it was a year ago. Aside from watching the very occasional p**rn video during sex, I haven't watched it and it's made a whole hell of a difference. Sexual fantasies are frequent now, and sex itself is freaking amazing.

I would strongly urge anyone who is having libido / ED issues to consider your p**rn habits. Give it up for a couple months and see if it doesn't make a difference.

Has this ever been demonstrated in a placebo controlled study? Otherwise, you could say going to Hawaii caused ED/Libido issues.

If you are referring to my post, I simply posted an anecdote about my own experience. I never stated anything as fact.

your irrational hatred of Wuffer is bizarre

go outside and take a few deep breaths

He certainly isn't the first. There have been many new members that automatically harbored a hatred for me, and know an awful lot about my posting history here. It's clear these members are either the same person, or a group of people set out to specifically discredit me as much as possible. Even though Allen certainly isn't polite and still hurls personal insults at me, he is much better than some of the other pseudonym's!

What a massive surprise. I find it hilarious that all of these pseudonyms accuse me of being a Merck shill and they are the ones clearly doing the shilling. We see a lot of members claiming to have had their lives destroyed by Propecia, but clearly they are creating multiple accounts to make the problem seem worse than it actually is. Makes me wonder how many accounts on propeciahelp are actually unique? The fact that there are only maybe a hundred active members there sort of paints a clear picture for me.

Propeciahelp still has threads on the front page from years ago - the place is a graveyard. I'd say there are only a handful of active members. And some of these could be lawyers looking for 'victims' as PH is now encouraging the lawsuit route. Most other accounts are probably spambots.

I find it bizarre that Dr. Irwig cited that Propeciahelp had 'thousands of members' as evidence that Finasteride caused huge numbers of men to get persistent side effects. He may be a doctor but he clearly knows nothing about how the internet works... or about scientific method

They're still breaking this record as time moves on. It's a sign of increasing activity.

which cannot necessarily be corellated as a sign that more men have permanent finasteride side effects. I hope you should understand that, as a sicentist, even if Dr. Earwig doesn't grasp it

"Total members 2715"

Minus....

the hundreds of Spambots,

the shillers/spammers,

all the people who joined up mistakenly thinking it was a board about helping hairloss,

all the people who joined up mistakenly thinking it was a board about discussing current Propecia problems and then being rudely told to get lost,

the ambulance-chasing lawyers cruising for clients (victims),

All of Allen Parks/Hair to Learn/Haebus Corpse's sock puppet accounts,

...that leaves by my calculation - about 3 real members! :woot:

Again Fanjeera, this Allen Parks person was very knowledgeable about the finasteride debate, so one could only assume he's attached to propeciahelp in one way or another. The fact that he's proven to be an extremely shady, bold faced liar, makes me (as I have done in the past) seriously question the validity of propeciahelp. Especially now that they are involved in lawsuits and will do anything to take Merck down, they will likely resort to any measure to make their cause seem more legitimate. It's extremely easy for the web admins to make fake accounts and post fake stories. Many, MANY members there have less than 10 posts. It only takes a few very diligent people to make hundreds of accounts and post elaborate fake stories. Like Quantum said also, how do you, or anyone know for certain that every single propeciahelp member is a unique, legitimate case?

Don't get me wrong though, I have full support for the legitimate members there with problems after they took finasteride. I am even considering donating to the PFS foundation because it appears to be a legitimate organization and probably not linked to shady law firms. It's people like Allen Parks that ruin everything. They push propaganda, they lie, and they target and try to bully people into agreeing with them.

You mean the threads made into stickies, which stay on the top nonetheless? People post there every day. Btw, the front page was updated with pretty interesting recent news about Propecia and Proscar today, but you should have a look yourself, because they're not relevant enough to post here.

more lawsuit news. Not very interesting.

I notice people who took Proscar for enlarged prostate are also jumping on the legal bandwagon, so it's not just baldies now. Pretty unethical. I guess they would rather have stayed with BPH than take a med with a small percentage chance of side effects (as all meds do)

- - - Updated - - -

actually I have my own experience of a med giving me permanent unwanted side effects. I took an SSRI and developed gynocomastia, so I immediately quit the drug. The side effects listed in the leaflet didn't mention gyno at all.

I didn't get angry with my Dr or consider suing the drug manufacturer. I just accept that I was unlucky. I didn't have to take the med - it wasn't essential like Proscar pretty much is if you have BPH.

surgery comes with risks, but if you need it (or even just want it for cosmetic purposes) then you have it, and if you're unlucky that something goes wrong, you shouldn't resort to legal action, unless it was the result of gross incompetence.

Wow, that's actually a lot more lawsuits than I thought were going down. I'm actually very interested in the outcome of these, since (IMO) there is still quite a significant lack of evidence that finasteride is actually the culprit.

It's no question why these particular lawsuits are so attractive to lawyers though. Almost every other pharmaceutical lawsuit is because there is a 'tangible', demonstrable damage that the drug caused, such as a particular type of cancer, heart attacks, diseases, etc. Not anything that can be easily faked. The thing about Propecia is anyone who took the stuff at any time in their life could walk up to a lawyer, tell them they have ED or low libido or any other of the dozens of side effects blamed on the drug, then go potentially win a lawsuit. There is absolutely no test to verify that finasteride was the culprit, or even that the plaintiff is experiencing these issues in the first place. There is no biological marker they can test for. I'm not saying these lawsuits are all frivolous, but due to the nature it's almost guaranteed a number of them will be, or the symptoms greatly exaggerated to get a bigger payout.

those are exactly the reasons why I hope these lawsuits fail. Not because I don't sympathise with people who experience these side effects (whether real or imagined, whether caused by Propecia or not).

these Propecia lawsuits are a disturbing abuse of the legal system (by both lawyers and regular people), and if any are won it would set a terrible precedence

I'm curious how some of these cases will be 'proven' in court though as I said in this thread:http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interac...h-that-roundtable-discussion-on-finasteride#6

Exactly. This would essentially open the door for anyone to sue any drug manufacturer for anything, as long as enough people got together claiming the same symptoms. I don't think anyone can say, even the most rabid anti-propecia lobbyist, that there is definitive scientific evidence that finasteride is the sole culprit in these cases. Still to this day, all that exists are the Irwig studies (that are essentially anecdotal, biased case studies), and more anecdotal evidence in the form of a message board. Oh, I forgot there are a few doctors that believe this is all true, such as Crisler and Shippen, but they both just happen to claim that they treat the condition with TRT.
