Not sure what's going on, am I going bald?

Basically I was really worried I was going bald in Winter 2009.

Recently I put this to creatine in my diet because when I stopped the hair around my crown got thicker again. I know creatine and hair loss is debatable but people have different reactions to drugs.

I shaved my head to a number 2 in the winter and I couldn't see any tin areas, my hair has always been fine (I'm Indian) and my dad has hair although it's pretty thin. My mum's father is bald.

The thing that get's me now is the front top of my hair seems pretty thin. I can't tell if this is due to the way the last guy cut my hair because when it was longer it didn't look that bad.

Another question I have is that I don't have a receding hair line, isn't that the first sign? Can I still go bald without a receding hairline?

I find around 5 hairs on my pillow after every sleep. And when I shampoo another couple come off in my hand.

Any comments are appreciated. Cheers

Well you certainly have some type of family history. Short hair cuts can easily exaggerate hair loss if not done correctly. This can sometimes be due to the way your hair follicles face on your particular head. Some people have follicles on top that stick straight up while the follicles on the sides and back slope down creating a more dense look than the straight follicles on top.

While a receding hairline is severely common in androgenic alopecia, it's not 100% required. That's not the only kind of hairloss you can experience however, does the hair almost entirely seem to be coming from the crown?

Technically you should expect a small amount of hair loss every day as part of your normal hair life cycles. If you've ever lived with a female you should know that they lose plenty of hair (or at least it seems that way because of how long the hairs are) in the shower, in their brushes etc, and still have a full healthy head of hair. It's really only when you start losing more than your body regrows that you start having a problem.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't posted in ages but literally just now I realised how bad my hair shedding has become.

I till don't have a prominent receding hairline at all but a patch in middle top seems to be thinner than surrounding areas. I'm going to visit my doctor to make sure it is genetic and can't be prevented, I'd rather not go bald. Every time I run my hand through my hair a good 5-10 hairs fall out with root (little white bulb).

I've been getting spots on my scalp on and off for the past 12 months as well as flaking.

Any thoughts on this new info?

It could very well be diffuse thinning, seeing as your moms father is bald and your father himself has thin hair. With diffuse thinning it's common that the hairline doesn't go till later where also alot of your hair on top has thinned out greatly

Hmmm, that sucks but I think I've dealt with the brunt of the balding shock, if it turns out it is just genetic I'm going to buzz my hair a la GSP (Georges St-Pierre), I've been told "at least you can rock the bald/buzzed look".

Can't be that bad eh? I might consider some treatments though.

I'll keep this thread updated with what the doctor says.

Also, haven't been to GP (Family Practitioner) yet but are there any non MBP causes for my thinning/shedding? Is it worth me getting checked out or should I just start fighting it?
