No Finasteride, only Minoxidil + Nizoral

I have read into this a fair bit. Short answer - it depends on how good your initial response is to Minoxidil and also how aggressive your hair loss is. Nizoral is a good addition.

I would say for most young guys on here (18-20) who are balding already - you might stay above baseline for a decade, then decline imo. There are reports of people maintaining 20 years plus though. And in future there might be better treatments, also don't forget hair transplants these days can do wonders too using body hair if donor hair is not enough.

Unfortunately finasteride is the most effective one long term for most people if you want to maintain and not worry about hair.

Short term results most probably, if it works in the first place.

You should reach out for resu, I think he has experience with minoxidil alone.

First things first: You are paranoid, Toms. You currently have a perfect head of hair and should really determine whether there is any family history of male pattern baldness. If not, f*ckin stop that BS you're pulling. Your hair at your age looks much better than mine did at your age.

Now to the topic: I decided to take the next step from my current regimen (5% minoxidil 1 ml once a day + nizoral 2x a week) and soon go on finasteride. I wanted to avoid this because I don't want to mess with my hormones, but minoxidil isn't holding my male pattern baldness unter control anymore. Though slow, I had recession during the last months and now also crown loss started to kick in. I didn't want to, but there is no other way now for me than to start taking finasteride.

Bottom line for you, though: If you have hair loss as aggressive as mine (NW1 at 17 to NW3.5 at 25, now turning into NW3.5V) minoxidil + nizoral alone doesn't do the job. In your case, however, as your hair loss (if there is any at all) is so minor, minoxidil alone could be enough. Or just no treatment if you have no familiy history of male pattern baldness. Because what you have right now qualifies as a perfect head of hair with significant amounts of paranoia.

Let him, he'll spend his resources before even having hair loss. Nor minoxidil, or finasteride, or dutasteride, or nizoral lasts forever and when baldness strikes full force the guy won't have any other thing available but a hair transplant. And then he'll have to wait for further loss to actually do an hair transplant.

That is not true. It won't hurt his hair later if he starts now. Give this guy a break man. He clearly has some recession. Everyone had perfect hair before we started to notice. This guy just noticed in good time, which is good. Telling him that treatments now will hurt his hair later, does not fit the idea that, the sooner the better. Hairloss is not accelerated by taking medication.. It's just the opposite.

Toms, you do have minor hairloss. minoxidil will give you 2 years max. You need to start finasteride, and try not to think about it. Many people here take it and there is a lot of fear on the Web. I'm convinced that you panicked and have had psychosomatic effects. Just pop the pill at keep yourself occupied.

Any degree of hairloss sucks. It's the thought of it getting worse, not the current state of your hair, when you have early hairloss.

You are right, he can start treatment whenever he wants but no, Toms has absolutely no visible hair loss and I am not the only person who thinks that way I am sure. I'm also spoke with toms about finasteride and such and I have adviced to take it, just because he insists because is not necessary at this point tbh
