Hi guys,

I DO NOT have any pictures to show, since my camera is dead, but it performed some experimentation and have determined that I am most likely in the beginning stages of hairloss.

It started when I was 21/22 when I noticed I had a ton of hairs on my pillows. My current gf noticed that I have some thinning in my crown area near a cowlick that is on one side of my forehead.

If I run my hand through my hair I usually get a couple hairs that fall out.

I started taking tabs of amounts of hair lost from my scalp in the shower (plugged the drain and counted). I take showers every morning so its a calculation of approx how many hairs I have lost in 24 hours.

I typically count around 40-60 hairs, most of which are thick hairs and some of which appear to be thin ones. Those are hairs that just fall out when I do a light shampoo. Doesnt count the ones that come off on towel after I Dry hair (which are alot too), or ones that come off during the day.

Of course, I Am in disbelief mainly because

#1. Not a single direct family member on either my moms side or dads side showed noticable hair loss until they were in their 60's. In fact our family is known for keeping all the hair on their heads - if you look at our family photos from both sides, everyone has their hair (my grandparents used to tell me how luck I would be to keep my hair until I was older, and how hairloss was non-existent in our family tree).

#2 I do not have a receding hair line at all (it is literally straight across).

So, I am just getting mainly hairloss on my crown and that is it.

So, I am thinking about starting on Norizonal, and maybe rogaine.

What do you guys think? Advice for beginning hair loss treatment?

Thanks :)

Good choices. Looks like you did some reading already.

Try the weakest formula of Rogaine first and apply it sparingly during the first month or so. I have this hunch that applying to much may be shocking the hair follicles.

I'm collecting data for my personal study. Would you care to give me some details about your work in detail? Do you drink milk coffee or tea?

Thanks.

Will do....I heard it is crucial to add Nizorinal (is that how you spell it?) to your regimen? Why is that omitted?

Anyways,

I do drink Alot of milk and Dairy products, far more than the average person.

I go through probably a gallon a week in 1% milk and about 10 servings of cottage cheese. I do this because I do bodybuilding as a hobby and need this certain type of protein (casein) found in dairy products.

I work as an engineer at a medical device company

Good on you for exercising and keeping in shape. Milk and cottage cheese are 2 excellent sources of protein. Personal favorite here is steamed chicken :).

Do you use creatine? I did...but then found out that recent studies have shown that it raises your DHT levels, so I dropped it.

I would also start on 5% minoxidil 2x a day. The reason people suffer a "minoxidil shed" is because the minoxidil is stimulating your hairs to get back into regrowth stage. If your follicle is close to hitting the resting stage then it will shed the hair and start re-growing a new one. Nothing to be scared of, although it is VERY worrisome at first. I almost stopped finasteride/minoxidil after 2 months because of the pantshitting shed that I was going through. 3+ years later, and I can say that I'm ecstatic that I stuck it out.

Nizoral is good to add because it can help with scalp inflammation. Think of your scalp like a vegetable garden. You need to have good soil (scalp) to get good growth from your plants (hair follicles). The nizoral helps to promote a healthier scalp.

I don't use Nizoral or not yet anyway. My scalp doesn't itch or has any kind of odd feeling so I'm guessing I don't need it. I'm on a preventive phase and very little sign of hairloss. It runs in my family so I'm also guessing it will affect me.

I'm very particular about the timing and the larger scheme of things in my study. When did you start working? Also when did you start body building?

Also would you describe what you do in the typical day at the office?

Thanks!

I started working when I was 22..fresh out of college.

My job is half running around and tinkering with equipment/running experiments and half sitting at my cubicle doing technical writing or figuring out technical problems. I wouldn't say it stresses me out too much.

I started weight lifting more seriously when I was 20-21. I weight lift for a about an hour about 3-4 times a week, and run 2-3 times a week for about 3 miles. I am no means trying to become the next mr olympia, but I take it fairly seriously. Sometimes I wonder if lifting is a partial cause of my hairloss......

Side note - Although most people on this forum have it much worse than me in terms of hair loss progression, I guess the ONLY reason why I am concerned is in attracting women. I would say its 95% my reason to do hair treatment - I could not care less what other people think of my hair or maintaining hair. I look very young for my age and do NOT look good bald (I tried it once). Girls did not give me barely any attention in my early 20s since I looked so young for my age, but now I am finally getting attention, since I matured more. It sucks that now that I am finally looking decent (after lifting/looking more mature), I am starting to show balding at the crown! I was starting to feel very good about my physical appearance and seeing results and was looking forward to dating/finding someone to marry to be a little less frustrating...and then..bam ..completely unexpected hairloss. Now I feel like I have only a few years left to take advantage of my full head of hair before it becomes a deterrent to women. the clock is ticking!

Note your body building times with your hairloss. There are no studies to support the idea the exercises contribute to hairloss, however.

I'm into telecoms. I like your work. But...
Yoy may want to read this regarding your work.

Regarding milk, if you have sources of goat's milk, it closely resembles human milk. Cow's milk contains very high levels of estrogen and is implicated in the development of prostate cancer. You may want to read this.

You should add coffee and tea to your diet. Lots of tea. It will help if you can keep the forum updated on your results.

Yeah, I think will go with the minoxidil 5% (maybe 2% first), and the Nizo first.

I also would like to mention I am starting to get a tingly feeling near the area where I have the greatest hairloss.

How much of an improvement is there with these two treatment options? for example, if you can see hairloss but there is by no means any bald spot can you hope to regrow your hair back to where it was previously?
