Hey board,
I've been a long time reader on this board and have posted very rarely.
To give you a general history on my situation. My father has amazingly thick hair and he is 54. My older brother who is 27 has amazingly thick hair. I'm 23 and have noticed I've lost hair since junior high. I've had a bout with Allopecia Areata right behind my left ear but thats been all healed and that area is full now. Since now, I've considered it very normal as I had alot of volume on the top of my head so I thought there was a relationship b/w the amount of hair and the amount of shedding.
I've noticed recently (or more so for the last 2 years - but I've pretty much been in denial) that I'm losing volume at the top of my head near the back. My temples are totally fine. THere is no male pattern baldness genes in my family. Both of my grandparents from both sides of the family have full hair as well.
I honestly don't know what is going on with me. I don't feel like seeing my derma because I hate seeing the doctor.
I am thinking of purchasing rogaine tomorrow and using it. Does anyone have any suggestions on applying it?? Does it have any side effects??
I really hate balding and I cannot see myself shaving my head because I don't have the right look. I refuse to be a peanut head.
PLease respond with some suggestions. I will not go on Propecia as well b/c I don't want to take something that may screw my hormones up and cost me money as well. If nature has called me to bald, then I will let it take its course.
The hairloss industry is bullshit anyways. There should have been a cure somewhere down the line but they want men to purchase medicine per month so they can continually fuel the multi-billion industry.
Not only is the money factor but I don't want to be chained to taking some sort of medicine everyday for the rest of my existence.
I'm going to try Rogaine to see if I respond, if not, I'm gonna probably go live in the mountains. I know that everyone is going to say shave your head and hit the gym. But thats stupid. Think about it. I saw a bald guy on teh train the other day with a World Health Club bag and he just looked stupid. You could tell he went to the gym to work out just to cover up for his shiny peanut head which reflected the sunlight coming in through the window. The peanut head look is not that great.
I need advice, badly. I'm going to start investing in a cabin in the mountains or something.
