Recently went to my doctor about my hair falling out, assumed I was dying since I didn't know you could lose so much damn hair at 23. After a few tests he assured me it was just me going bald and all I had to do to keep my hair was take propecia and use a liquid minoxidil treatment (he claims liquid is more effective than foam???). Since the doctor's visit I haven't really noticed anything except the minoxidil feels nasty as **** and really dries out my scalp. My internet research led me to this site I realized lots of people prefer to use the foam. So I guess my first question is has anyone tried both and actually noticed a difference in effectiveness? I'm sure the foam is less intense than the concentrated liquid but I'm not sure I'm okay with the increased expense of foam for less results. I also noticed that I need a fancy anti inflammation shampoo like the Nizoral or Regenpure, and it seems the consensus is that Regenpure is better, but wtf is the deal with the Dr and Nt versions? I surmised that the Dr was the medicated version comparable to Nizoral, but Nt is not a conditioner, it's another shampoo? So then what do I use for conditioner? Or is it best to get just the medicated Dr version, use that every few days, and then use an entirely seperate shampoo/conditioner system on the other days?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

The foam works better for me. I am one of the 20% of men that have an allergic reaction to the liquid. The solution makes my head itchy, red, and flaky. If you are having a bad reaction to the solution it is not going to be very helpful growing or maintaining your hair. I think the foam might be good option for you. At first I didn't like the foam because it makes your hair kind of dull and stiff looking. But then I grew to like it because I can style my hair pretty easily with it. Best of luck.

foam isn't as messy but he is right liquid is more effective. You can take minoxidil once a day at night this way your hair can still look normal during the day. It is less effective than using twice a day but it still works. Important to note it takes months for any real results and you may only maintain what you have in the end

If I were you, I'd just go on finasteride (propecia) for now. If that works and grows back enough hair so you're happy then you won't need to go on minoxidil, which doesn't actually stop the cause of balding like finasteride does. Minoxidil, unlike finasteride can be used any time, there's no hurry to get on it like there is with finasteride and there's no point in becoming dependent on two products when it can just be one.

If you lost a lot of hair at once, i would assume it's either stress or a medical condition you should be looking into. Try to live a healthier life and see it that makes any difference, also, check nofap, maybe it helps you.

Best of luck.

I thought it was all at once, but my family says they've been noticing it for about two years. My doctor did tons of blood work and looked through my hair with a lighted magnifying glass before he concluded that it was male pattern baldness and suggested finasteride and minoxidil.
Frankly, your suggestions are ridiculous and I don't appreciate the assumptions you've made about my life.

You are fairly young and you did mention "i didn't know you can lose so much damn hair at 23", so my first impression was that it was a shedding more than one would expect. Not to say that i personally find the hairloss in young people abnormal to begin with.

I also personally consider they way we respond to stress (mostly emotional and chronic) to be a primary factor for hairloss, so i would be fairly surprised to be honest if i'd find out there's little to no stress or anxiety in your life. That other assumption, that i would feel could've bothered you, nofap, derives from my own experience and other's, but obviously comes with no scientifical rigor attached.

I'm sorry that it made you feel uncomfortable but if it's possible, i'd appreciate an answer.
