It looks identical to the 2-yr-old models which have been discontinued but this new one supposedly has improvements (duh). If I have to guess, it's most likely the battery cos' my old SCC-100R died on me a lil' over one year with only moderate usage. A lot of unhappy reviewers on Amazon say the same thing.
As of this afternoon, all Remington Short Cut Clippers sold on Amazon are of the old model. I think only RemingtonProducts.com sells the new model at this time.
FYI:
SCC-100R = old discontinued model w/ matte plastic body
SCC-100RC = old discontinued model w/ chrome body
SCC-100RCDN = new model w/ matte plastic body

I'm now using the Philips Norelco Hair Clipper Pro QC5170, I only used it for one time thus far so it's too early to say which brand is better. Each has its goods & bads. I may post a comparison review post later.
