Re: Natwraggie's Story (age 17) *Update*

Ok, since my last update I had a haircut. They layered my hair out and made it feel thicker. After 2 months my hair looks the worst it has been.

My hair loss is like a rollercoaster (stupid comparison) but it was crap, then looked good, now looks crap. I have made over 10 doctors appointments within the last 6 months, and they won't let me go on the Big 3 (excluding Nizoral)

This is DESTROYING my life! :(

I'm 17 and already my hair feels limp, thin always shedding.

I'm currently on:

Saw Palmetto
Stinging Nettle Extract
Nizoral
Jojoba Oil
Olive Oil
Soya Milk
Green Tea

My diet is perfect, loads of proteins, biotin, 5 fruit and veg a day, loads of water.

I'm constantly feeling suicidal, missed college because my hair looks translucent. I'm fed up.

Could someone please help me? I'm getting really upset about all of this. What can I do? The doctors are completely useless.

I'll post pictures later =/ My hair is a lot worse than the pics above btw.

You have SEVERE BDD. You are not bald, or balding. The next time you see a doctor, I would recommend you ask about seeing a psychiatrist.

now it is...looks thinner...and the temples are also affected..I don't think that propecia will make so much for you...because it looks like you have some agressive loss for this age...your hair is even thinner than mine at 23...but don't be so depressed it could be others solutions...

In fairness, I think when you compared this recent photo:

...it does look like you might be experiencing recession. I wouldn't normally suggest this, but with your family history of early-onset male pattern baldness I think it's a possibility.

You have to try and find something that works for you long term. If you turn 18 and jump on finasteride, without side effects, that's probably the best solution. But it's not the only one.

My hair was much worse than yours at 17 and at 25 it's not that much different (and that's without any finasteride).

Stop freaking out. You have good hair. Get on rogaine and finasteride if you're that worried

Yeh, that is a sad stroy. I am booking an appointment at the doctors on thursday, and if they dare tell me that I am not losing my hair, then I'll go mad. I'm fed up with them messing me around. It is about time I got some truth out of this, and I wish Dr. Ashcroft would reply back to my email :(

Anyone got any advice? Although you cannot see from the pictures, my front hairline loos very thing in the mirror. Could this be a finasteride shed? Or do I need to add something to my regime? If so, what should I add? (preferably not minoxidil)

I am currently on Nizoral 2%, Proscar 1.25mg and my diet is healthy.

What else can I do?

Thanks

Man I understand why you are afraid. You do have some recession in your temples and your family history is not a good sign either.

Let me tell you this, you are doing everything you can at the moment.Dont panic and your hairloss isn't bad at all right now.Try to distract yourself from this developing a hobby or some other activity.

Thank you for the reply. The think i have noticed is that the front is getting very thin. I look in the mirror and can see through the hairs into my scalp. What is the best treatment for that? My crown isn't too bad. I just hope finasteride works for me. I have been on it for 3-4 months.

Re: Natwraggie's Story (age 18) *Update* March 2011

Before June...

The crown area was very thin and I was worried that I'd develop a bald patch there. Apart from that my hair was fine. I could style it so my hair looked thick and healthy, it had volume it felt thick. The only thing I did notice is that my hair got very greasy within a small amount of time... I was on Nizoral, Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root Extract all before June... I also was on and off with a range of different oils such as Peppermint, Olive, Emu etc. but I found it a waste of time and money.

Summary
- Nettle Root Extract
- Saw Palmetto
- Nizoral 2%

I was only on minoxidil from the age of 16 (around 2 years ago), but dropped it after 2 - 3 months.

June - January

I was on around 1.25mg of finasteride which I took every morning. Also in my regime was Nizoral 2%, Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root Extract. (all mentioned above)

During this time, I suffered a massive shed withing the first two months and then my hair density suffered a massive set back. My crown cleared up... but the front of my hairline lost its thickness and I could no longer style my hair with the frink spiked up. Shedding stopped a while after, but I didn't see much improvement apart from the crown area.

I also suffered from minor sexual side effects from the drug and reading that finasteride is like toxic to the body made me worry.

Summary
- Nettle Root Extract
- Saw Palmetto
- Nizoral 2%
- Finasteride 1.25mg
NEW

January - present day (March 19th)

Doctors convinced me to stop the drug. It took their advice (although they know little about it). In addition I dropped everything else apart from Nizoral. I use a shampoo with Piroctone Olamine as well and when wasing my hair I sometimes apply mixed eggs an hour before, followed by a rinse of Apple Cider Vinegar. I also take 1 tablespoon of milled flaxseed twice a day. To begin with my hair was fine, I had a long hair cut I could style it so it looked like I had no visible loss (apart from when it was really greasy)... However things changed when I had a haircut from the beginning of March. I had a short haircut where my hair density looked crap. I can see my scalp through my hair at times... (especially when greasy) It looks like I am suffering from diffuse thinning. Although my crown still looks fine. I cannot afford to get my hair greasy as this makes my hair looks weak and thin... I am not sure if it was the haircut I had or wether it is due to dropping finasteride. I just don't know anymore. The funny thing is that I am not shedding much at all. Could someone explain this? (I've had my blood checked and everything is fine).

Summary
- Nizoral 2%
- Piroctone Olamine Shampoo
NEW
- Apple Cider Vinegar (internal and external) NEW

ALSO NOTE: My diet was also very healthy. I've cut carbs and take a lot of green vegetables and protein. I've adopted a Paleo and Japanese type diet which I am working on right now.

Pictures will come soon
