Natural Hair, Propecia And Wearing A Hair System

Hi everybody,

I've started wearing a hair system one year ago. I still had a lot of hair when I made the transition so it has been discrete. I stopped taking Propecia for 6 months after starting wearing the system but after thinking about it I got back on propecia 6 months ago because I dont want to give up on my natural hair.

Even though the system really satisfied me and changed my life, I'm still not comfortable when It gets too intimate with a woman. I want to keep the hair growing under it and I'm thinking of getting a hair transplant with Dr.Koray Erdogan soon.

My question is the following : Is it okay to think that wearing a system doesn't have a negative impact on native hair and I can still get benefits from finasteride while wearing the system?

Thanks for reading

Hi Mompo

The only way that wearing a system would have a negative effect on your natural hair is traction alopecia - if you are pulling on the natural hair. That happens with clips, but if you shave and use a water-based glue or tape, and you release the adhesive with alcohol before removal in the normal way and maintain decent scalp hygiene, it should have no negative effect. I still have a tuft of hair at the front where I attach the hairline of my piece. I have been shaving it and putting glue on it for 5 years now, and it is still growing as strongly as ever.

I can't say anything about Finasteride - I never had any positive results from meds.

Hi Noah,

Thank you once again for your answer.

I'm a little bit afraid because the scalp can't breathe under my system. I've red somewhere that swiss lace systems are better because it allows the scalp to breathe, but my hair dresser said to me that the glue can go through the system which is a problem. Have you ever experienced such a situation?

Glue should only go through the base of the system in 2 situations - (1) you put the system on when the glue is still wet (it should always be dry) or (2) you leave the system on to long (say 14+ days) and the glue starts to mix with your body oils and break down. You can prevent both of those situations.

I might have maintained a little bit but I'm not sure. What is sure is that I have way less hair than I had before wearing the system, but this might be because of stopping propecia for some months. Anyway, I'm done with hair pieces I'll shave my head and get scalp micropigmentation on monday and wait for a transplant in the near future. After that I would have tested all the baldness "solutions". f*****g baldness I hate it so much
