Seems like you guys are taking all the good things in life and putting them behind the cause of hairloss.

Hot showers
Masterbation
Eating meat

Damn what next? No more watching sports?

I couldn't give away my daily dose of masterbation and hot showers. My life would become so stressful if that happend and I think that may cause my hair to fall out even more.

watching sports can be very stressful sometimes, stress = hairloss

If hot water temperatures etc etc cause hairloss then why are women uneffected at the same rates as men? and why only hair on your head? I could go on and on with these questions because the idea is preposterous and falls apart when logic is applied.

I'm sure hundreds of people have gone away believing all sorts of nonsense from reading some of your posts on the possible causes of hairloss. What next, flossing?

Actually the university of California did a double binded study on flossing and hair loss. 50 men were selected and each was given the task of flossing each day for six month. 25 men were handed real flossing lace and the other 25 were handed nothing. After six months it was found that the men who wefre handed nothing but actually acted out the flossing movement each morning grew more hair than the men who did not floss.

Guys, the solution is simple. Stop your bitching, start pretending you're an amoeba, and stop enjoying the simple pleasures of life, and the simple pleasures being human affords you. Let's all pretend we're in 3rd world countries, stop eating meat, take cold showers, stop having sex, etc, etc. In fact, you ever notice how homeless people usually have great hair? I HAVE THE SOLUTION! Let's all be homeless! This garbage is starting to get absolutely ridiculous.

Deaner, you've touched on something here and that is...phobia:( When a fear starts to dominate almost or all of someone's life, then it becomes a dangerous phobia. You're right.

On a side note, and to illustrate what I'm talking about, I remember watching a movie called Arachnephobia. It pretty much gave spiders the ability to do what everyone fears. You know, even though spiders can't jump off of walls at you, they did in the film.

Please don't let your hairloss become a phobia that starts to control everything that you do, say and think:( I've said it before and it bears repeating, there's more to life than our hairloss:(:(:( :freaked2:

I think Chewbaca should stop posting these threads suggesting ridiculous causes and cures for male pattern baldness.

Here's a list of the proposterous things you have suggested:

Causes of male pattern baldness:
Hot Showers
Sodium Laureth Sulphate
Liver Problems/Body Odour?
Shaving Facial Hair whilst being a Teenager
Wanking
Nizoral
The Environment
Being Underweight and being a Twin
Smoking

Possible Cures:
Animal Stak 2?
Blood transfusion
Women
Primates
Smoking
Filling your follicules with a filling agent

I'm sorry to go on at you but the reason this pisses me off is that this kind of mis-information can have a serious detrimental effect on new people to this site. Especially the causes you suggest with no proper research or evidence.

I can imagine some poor young guy that has just started thinning a little, shitting his pants because he's been jerking off twice nightly since he was 14 and he started shaving when he was 15.

I just feel that it is a bit irresponsible and disrespectful to the more accomplished posters on this site.

This is bullshit..... male pattern baldness is caused my genetics and DHT overproduction, you cant generalize and point the finger at everything such as swimming pools, masterbation, eating meat, smoking etc....

I totally agree.

People like to point fingers at absurd solutions to hair loss, such as hot showers or dry blowing, or blood flow - ect. The fact is, women take hot showers and blow dry their hair, curl it, die it, perm it and their hair doesent fall out.

Grow up and stop believing the absurd sh*t on the internet written by fools.

Chewbaca, interesting stuff. Could you post the link where you found this study? It's helpful to see the bigger picture of why this particular study was conducted and the rest of the particulars as well. Thanks as this is interesting stuff. I just need more details :p

I think only the already posted abstract in available on line.

I do have a `hard' copy of the complete study, that Prof Cabanac sent me after my theory was published in "Medical Hypotheses"

This study was conducted because of Prof Cabanacs interest in the thermo-regulatory systems in evolution.

It shows a positive relationship with DHT related hair loss or hair growth, and the sweating capacity of the tissue. Where DHT increases hair growth (beard), there is a notable reduction in sweating capacity. Where DHT reduces hair growth (male pattern baldness), there is a notable increase in sweating capacity. This was a very precise study using pre-puberty controls and women to compare the results.

It is interesting that there was no DHT induced physical change in the local sweat glands themselves, and i have quoted this study before as supporting my theory. Prof Cabanac reports the relationship between DHT related hair growth/loss and sweating capacity, and suggests it could be related to temperature control. I suggest the `mechanism' of this based on the `Hydraulic dermal model' section in my paper.

http://www.hairsite2.com/library/abst-167.htm

The local sweating capacity of the tissue depends on the local tissue fluid pressure! 8)

I sweat alot even before male pattern baldness started and i had facial hair as well...When male pattern baldness started i bega to sweat more lie crazy and had a sudden growth of body hair in armpits ect......What does this mean in relation to DHT levels...

Maybe a new section can be created on the forum for 'wild theories' so that these threads stay out of plain sight of new users.

An easy debunk for this specific theory.

1) 1000 years ago people did not have steaming hot high-pressure showers. In fact they barely showered at all .

2) You can find paintings of a lot of famous people throughout history that were bald.

Chill

Why is everyone having such a hard time understanding the connection between hot water on the scalp and fallout? To me, it's obvious that it can contribute. For those of us that have sensitive skin and get a red scalp from using hair products, does anyone here think it helps your head to blast it with hot water?

Once again - washing the hair and scalp with cold water makes sense to me. It doesn't have to be super cold - even luke-warm water would be better than hot.

LOL, yeah its the hot water making your hair fallout man. Go ahead and shower in the cold, post your results in 6 months, you should have a full head of hair again by then. :p

Oh and dont forget to post if it doesent do sh*t and your hair is still the same or worse.

When you say you noticed more sweating with male pattern baldness, i presume you are talking about the scalp right?

If you read the full study, it is very precise about the capacity of sweating in various areas in the individual. It is the percentage `change' in people relating to DHT induced hair loss/growth that is noted.

In all the test subjects, the tested areas were shaven `spots'. So the results were not related directly to the hair present, but the size of the DHT effected follicles.

The other thing you have to remember is that the study relates to the `normal' sweat glands. In the armpits and groin where DHT increases hair growth, there are also a lot of apocrine sweat glands. These are a lot larger than the normal temperature controling glands tested in this study.

The increased activity of apocrine sweat glands at puberty, is not related to the normal function of temperature control, so the sweating capacity of the armpits and groin are not relevant to this study.

Has no one here mentioned that sebaceous gland activity, which pump out DHT filled oil, not to mention enlarge themselves(follicle/pore) when exposed to heat. It's not a damaging effect caused by hot water. And hot water DOES NOT cause hair loss, unless you burn your scalp with boiling hot water from a kettle. However, aside from hormones, oil gland production is affected by temperatures. It is such an indirect effect that I doubt HOT showers make any kind of difference, nothing worth freezing in the morning over.

The perfect morning.

A limp dick, a cold shower, no masturbation, no coffee and smoke.

Dark and raining outside. Dog sh*t in the house again.

Find something in the freezer to defrost for dinner when I get home... No read meat?! Damn, I forgot about that one when I was sleeping.

Good f*****g Morning, Mister Norwood. How is your 'chi' today?

Don't forget to comb those lustrous locks with your ultra fine tooth comb though. You'll feel soooo much better.

Don't get too excited though, as you may start sweating and lose your temples by lunchtime.

man...such a dope...this isn't what is being implied....hot showers are not the cause but could most likely make things worse.
