[quote="hair today gone tomorrow":k6j4qlwy] propecia was not an accidental discovery....

Know one was talking about "Propecia." We all know this is just same made up name to sell to the masses. We were talking about Finasteride and its original purpose. The initial research into Finasteride was not to assist in the treatment of male pattern baldness but to shrink the postate. Finasteride for treating male pattern baldness was just a side effect of the drug they did not know about (even though they may of suspected it might somehow help) When testing the drug in shrinking the postate they discovered that some men who had male pattern baldness grew more hair. So in fact it was accidental as such. They did not know this at the time because it was not the aim of the original study.

not but they had an idea that reducing dht would effect other things besides the prostate...namely hair.[/quote

i thought they synthesized a 5ar2 inhibitor (finasteride) because of the pseudohermaphrodites who neither lose their hair not get bph. so it was definitely not accidental.

hair today gone tomorrow,

"Finasteride was approved initially in 1992 as Proscar, a treatment for prostate enlargement.
(..)
On December 22, 1997, the FDA approved finasteride to treat male pattern hair loss."

Almost six year later. I red that preventing hairloss was a side effect of proscar and then they tested with 1mg. So this five/six year interval makes this story's version well based. If you say it wasn't like that, ok , we live in a free world and I do not own the reason of world. Don't need to be :thumbdown2:
DHT, and thus the treatment of male pattern baldness with a type II alpha 5 reductase inhibitor was known when Finasteride was being developed.

Rogain however, did have the serendipitous discovery of causing hair to grow when it was used to treat blood pressure orally.

I love it how it is the same jackasses who always get things wrong here, or just pull out "facts" from their *** that the "red" some place

Also Mr. JC Metalhead "christian" now wants to use stem cells for his male pattern baldness, and also tells people to "vote McCain" :jackit:

Therefore it was infact accidental.

You're wrong HTGT.

No, he's not wrong, it was not accidental. It's long been known that they had other effects in mind (namely the effects of 5ar2 inhibition on scalp hair) whilst developing finasteride.

That's why Bryan has "No damnit, finasteride was not an "accidental discovery" for male pattern baldness!" in his signature, along with the other two common misunderstandings he frequently has to clear up.

I get countless young guys PM'ing me everyday for advice on there hairloss (not that I want them too. But I help them out anyway, bet you dont get any) Obvisouly what I write strikes a cord with them. So looks like you're the only one that thinks my advice/threads are garbage :shakehead:

Which leads to the obvious conclusion that its infact your responses that are garbage :woot:

metalhead: you said that using finasteride to treat male pattern baldness was a "accidental" discovery (serendipity) which is FALSE, and to keep on saying it makes you a liar and insane to keep on doing the same wrong thing over and over again.
