my hairline is coming down

I shaved my head today after my run, this time without the guard, just the clipper razor, to the very stubble...

I was shocked to see how much hair is underneath, and my hair was really short before...

Anyway, I plan on keeping it like this for a while, letting the foam have its way with my scalp, not even a few millimeters of hair to get in the way. I kinda like the stubble look.

One of the reasons it looks good is the foam appears to be solidifying my hairline.. For the longest time my temples where patchy and uneven, a real nightmare...

While they aren't quite perfect yet, there is extremely noticeable improvements (month 7). In fact, on my right temple, which receded a few millimeters higher than the left (and was like that for years), I now have terminal hairs plunging out from below that old hairline, and lots of them. I have hope now that the middle ground between will continue to improve.

So when I looked at my hairline in the mirror and looked at "what was happening" not necessarily "what was there" I see the reforming of a solid, straight across hairline, something I've not had since I was 17. So like 14 years.

My crown, ever the weakest area, is still recovering from that big shed but I have high hopes that I can soon exceed where I was at month two on the foam (looking REALLY good).

Still, it is undeniable that this stuff is working, and working in ways the liquid couldn't pull off.

Apparently more than a few of you were in this same boat, ugly sheds mid way after month 3 or so, then month 8 and beyond are solid.

I'm shaved down to nothing and getting the foam to the skin. Bring on month 8!

(and bring on HM soon, PLEASE! I'll pay 20 grand, I don't care!)

Hmm I happy for ya dude. But not to put a dampener on things but ive shaved my head to BALD with a razor about 2-3 times and wach time I did it my hair appeared to come in thicker when it started to grow. Alot of it is illusion. Despite what people might think, hair actually looks thinner when its longer. its more obvious. However, im not opposed to shaving heads, i really think it helps psychologically.

well, I'm not talking about anything imaginary, there is area below my hairline that was once skin and is now full of thick terminal hairs. It used to be blank space.

But yeah, you're right, this regrown hair doesn't like to get super long.

I will add something here. There is an enormous difference between how much foam gets to a shaved scalp than with someone with more hair, even only an inch in thickness.

A half a capful, for example, on my crown, when shaved, is almost an embarrasing amount of foam. There is nothing but skin contact with the foam, it's ALL getting there.

A half a capful with an inch of relatively thick hair, sooo much is getting stuck in your hair.

I wish ROGAINE, the company that makes it, could be MUCH MORE SPECIFIC on dosages for different types of hair.

Myself, I'm keeping it shaved close or of minimal length until HM comes out. I can be happy this way.

I've recently become healthy and have lost a LOT of weight, and was blessed with a good face so I'm lucky. I'm also lucky that my hair, while diffuse thin, is still relatively decent coverage. I look like a Norwood 2 as of now, shaved. And people just look into my eyes, not my hair.

I agree with you, hair does appear to be thicker when its shorter.

With 3" on top, I can use thickening shampoo and a good gel to mess it up, my hair actually looks awesome.

well some day the hair looks like sh*t, some day it actually appears thick --- it was never the case when I just walk out of the shower however. :(

..... I'm officially addicted to the shaved head.

I went five days and hit it again with the zero guard. I'm think I'm going to do this until spring, as I near a year on the foam. It will be an interesting experiment.

Plus, I really look very sharp. I have one of those nice round oval heads and a nice face after losing 30 pounds. It's been the greatest hairloss stress decompressor ever for me.

I can definitely hold out for three or four years until the next great thing and then hopefully HM ready and on the market.

then my gorgeous, spiral locks shall be triumphantly ressurected.

Congrats man. Also, we need more people like you with positive attitudes about their appearance. Sometimes I think this place is SelfesteemlossTalk.

lol. Yeah actualy i feel somewhat the same way. I have a strong masculine squarish jawline and with a shaved head it looks totally brutal and highly masculine and chicks love it! Trouble is, my head is NOT a great shape unlike yours and my forehead size is ok, its just my temples have receeded making my forehead look ginormous, unless i have a little length to my hair and I push the hair forward and up. So yeah....I feel I can hang out 5 years for this HM thing too. But HM is only the great hope for those that have like ZERO donor hair left or people with extensive hairloss. I dont think its going to help to make hair thicker. Im looking into a hair transplant for my temples atm. But my hairloss is really on a knife edge atm. Right now i can conceal it well around my temples, you can barely notice in receeding if i style it right and put a s-hit load of product in my hair but its a lot of work! If it holds at its current state, I could bare it (only just) but it goes further im gonna do something about it...ie: hair transplant with Armani for temples. Im young and I want to enjoy life now with hair. Screw the consequences.

What you reckon finish line?

Congrats on your hairline improvement

Which minoxidil do you use ? I'm on Rogaine Foam since the middle of August. So far, nothing, it just keeps getting worse

mine too is coming back....

I've been using minoxidil solutions on and off for about 7 years.

The key ingredient for me though has been retin-a....

Since using a minoxidil with retin-a in it my hair has been thickening up everywhere.
1. it supposedly increases minoxidil absorption
2. it actually reduces androgen activity by 30-40%

keep fighting the good fight... and yes.... I shave the noggin all the time (although I stick to about clipper blade 3-6 pending my mood)

flimflam, thanks for your info

1750,

What is the brand and where do you buy minoxidil with Retin A ? I use Rogaine Foam, but I'd like to try the one you use.

if anything, minoxidil helped me more on the crown than on my temples.

Yeah, I think the foam is going to be devastatingly effective now that I'm basically down to nothing.

But it looks GOOD like this!

And to tell you the truth, I'm getting WAY more attention from girls. I think it's because I'm basically a NW2 now. But it looks hot if you are in shape and your head is shaved.

Everybody who is miserable on their regimen or are just balsy like me, shave your head and join a gym.

You'll be shocked.

Now, I don't mean shave it with cream and a razor, unless you are that far gone. In that case, my condolensces. I'm talking about clippers.

here's another tip; you don't need to join a gym. most women aren't bothered by "muscles" lol

sunnyone - the stuff I use is a little on the pricey side (but I suppose it's not much more expensive than the version Dr Lee offers).

I use physicianshairgrowth remox 3 in the cream and spray (although I may try the promox eventually)
Unlike what dr klein says I only apply the spray in the morning and evening.
I use the cream version in the morning as well at the same time as the spray.
Stuff smells good, applies easily and has penetrating ingredients added as well. Do note though that the retin-a will cause some initial scalp scalyness... at least it did for me anyway.
My regime is essentially Remox morning and night.
spironolactone 2% spray at night as well (used this for well over a year without success until I used remox solutions again)
saw palmetto internal.
hope this helps

an alternative if you like the rogaine foam is to also just buy some retin-a from minoxidil.com and add it to your regime.
Think it sells for about $16 a bottle.
I tend to like the remox solution though and hate mixing my own stuff as I'm no chemist.

Can I get "just" retin-A so I can keep using foam?

That's impressive.

Don't see a problem in that...
As mentioned the retin-a should increase minoxidil absorption and also decrease androgen activity.... (just don't go applying retin-a and then go out into the burning sun).
There has been a number of threads in the past discussing how when retin-a is mixed withn minoxidil eventually the minoxidil degrades, so it may even be more optimal applying them seperately....
What I do know is that retin-a for me works better than azelaic acid, revivogen and even proctor products.

Thanks so much, you have a lot of useful info in this thread. I checked out minoxidil.com, maybe I'll try Xandrox. The minoxidil plus retin-a will probably be too drying for my scalp. I'm post-menopausal, and have dry skin issues (yes, I know this is a mens' hair loss site, but I visit here sometimes, and find some great info)
