My Biopsy Results; Is It Time For Propecia Anyway?

Since last October my hair has been shedding an insane amount. Just constantly pulling hair out of my head, from all over. There were random thin patches all over. The whole thing was shedding. I tried everything I could imagine to stop it. I recently got a biopsy. Since my whole head was shedding we did it on the upper part of the left side of my head, where it looked like it was in one of the thinning patches.

The thing is the biopsy came back normal. No male pattern baldness, no fungus. My inicial diagnosis was telogen effluvium. After the biopsy they said that they thought what was causing the issue has begun to resolve, so hopefully things will start to go back to normal. She said she didn't see results like that often.

I can't stop thinking that something must be wrong though. My hairline is clearly receded. And now I feel like I'm sitting here waiting for it to get worse.

I keep thinking "Well it must be the spot they took it from. If they took it from further up it would show male pattern baldness", but obviously I don't know that.

Most people around here seem to always recommend propecia. It seems like "Hey, I had a dream where a hair fell out" and the response is "GET ON PROPECIA NOW!!!!!" So I'm not sure what to do or what to believe. I just what to feel whole and complete again, and with my current shedding and hairline I can't feel that way.

I'm a very health conscious person and don't like taking medications in general, so i really don't want to go on propecia as it can have some crazy side effects. I just don't want to look like this anymore.

Can you upload pics of your hair please? You usually won't get a response without them.

Yea, I know. I clearly have receded temples. I don't want to take a picture of myself though. I have BDD and uploading a picture will be like a constant panic attack. My hairline looks like Harry Styles, except with random hairs all in the temple bald spots that grew after I started taking vitamin D.

Would you be willing to pm me pics of your hair? Its hard to help someone when I dont know their hair situation, especially if they are self admitted BDD

Just signed up on this site and can't for the life of me figure out where to "create new post."

That being said...if I were you I'd just try finasteride already. I'm losing my hair and it's driving me crazy...I'm really wanting finasteride, I'm in the U.S....but I don't want to spend over 200 dollars just to get the dang pills....I see online pharmacy stores but have no idea if they can be trusted.

People that love me say I'm "imagining" it...but the hairs piled up on my pillow each morning and in the shower beg to differ. At some point we have to just try it to see if we get any benefit of it.

So go for it, and if by any chance you can(or anyone else here) can advise me on where to get finasteride without a crazy 130$ fee prescription....I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also...how to I make my own thread? I'm using my phone and can't see any tab/option to do so.

Legit online pharmacies that sell finasteride are AllDayChemist and InhousePharmacy.. Both are very cheap and reliable, I've used both of them myself.

I am with you that having to see a doctor or a derm in real life is quite expensive for them to spend 5 minutes giving you some basic info and writing a script for it. There isnt much to diagnosing male pattern baldness

What is Vitamin D dosage that you consume daily?

Where did you go to get a scalp biopsy? A hair transplant clinic right? Regular derms dont do it right? Im looking to get one myself.

I had a pretty bad deficiency. I forget the units they use, but I was well below normal. I take 5000iu most days and 1000 others. After a few months my levels went from really low to the minimum required to be considered in the normal range. I have tiny hairs that are almost too tiny to see, like 1mm long, that grew in filling in my whole hairline. Some of them grew more, into normal hairs, after I started evening out my blood sugar through the day while intermittent fasting and improving my diet. It's not enough to look like a real hairline though. The strange thing is it goes lower then my original hairline. Like if it grew in instead of stay small I'd have a smaller forehead then when I was in my early teens. Norwood -1? Haha

I just looked up places my insurance covered. The first place I went didn't know anything about hairloss. Then just called the places my insurance covered till one finally said they did scalp biopsys for hairloss.

I'm not sure how to feel about the results coming back normal. Like I have receded temples and lots of shedding. Does that mean if I take propecia nothing will happen?

Yeah I also have vitamin D deficiency and want to give it a try to see if it will have any effect on my hair. Just not sure if I should get 2000 or 5000.

Interestingly I am in the same position as you. You can look at my recent threads and see. I just assumed it was male pattern baldness and got on propecia but am losing a lot of hair still and the propecia hasnt seemed to slow it down which makes me think its a different cause.

It's taken a long time for me to see results like. Like the better part of year before anything started to grow back in any real sense.

Interesting. The weird part is that my sides and back are still shedding, but tested negative for male pattern baldness. Like what could be causeing that hair to have issues then? So strange.

What brand is the vitamin D you are using?

The one I use is custom manufactured by a local health shop near me. It's supposed to be more natural or something. Works well for me. Not sure what you could get that would be similar to it that's widely available though.

Finasteride has completely destroyed me. Please do not take it. I am facing the prospect of having to do myself in. You do not want to face that.

I am already facing that. My hair loss has shattered my life. I am housebound I can't face the world.

What happened to you on propecia?

You are not facing that because of hair loss. You are a functioning human being.

I took finasteride four times, at a dose of 0.25 mg each time. Stopped because my penis glans felt numbed. Three days later my head basically exploded and things have deteriorated in a way I could never have conceived of. Four and a half months later, I have been so degraded by this condition I do not feel human anymore. The worst depression you could ever imagine. My vision, balance, digestion fucked. Penis completely numb while flaccid. No desire to masturbate. Constant nausea. Everyday I’m trying to get to the end of the day. My life is over. Please do not potentially end yours by taking finasteride.
