I have been on minoxidil since dec 2014 and my hairline and top has thinned alot during this time. I have noticed some terminal hair around my eye brows since starting minoxidil which means that it's having some effect but why is it having the opposite effect on my scalp hair?

I believe it has to do with Minoxidil clearing out unhealthy hair that is in the process of miniaturization, though that process should have come to an end in a year.

i'm facing the same problem, i had regrowth, lots of it

it's just that "hair line" is nonexistent anymore it's just a bunch of hair over each other xD

A YEAR ?

Same here. minoxidil for about 4 months now. My hairline was receding but used to be able to 'stand up' when styled. Can't do that anymore cause of thinning. Hoping this will reverse but I have no idea if these means its working or I should stop because its hurting

I've been using Minoxidil 5% (Generic) 2 x /day 1.5ml for just a little over a month and so far:

- It has pushed up my receding hairline higher (within 2 weeks)
- Caused shedding from week 1.5 up until now (1 month)
- Caused slight dark circles under eyes (However, I have become nocturnal and my eyes don't rest much since the anticipation of new hair sprouting has me on the edge of my seat + I literally pumped 240ml of minoxidil in the last month, so... yeah I kind of blame myself alot)
- When I applied more then 1.5ml I would get slight heart palpitations BUUUUUT when that happens I just pump my chest and hum the wolf of wall street theme)
- My facial hair became significantly darker which is a good thing cause now I look more resourceful.

Psychological effects:

- Confidence and social life has gone down BUT that will change as soon as this first initial shed stops
- Uncertainty: This is a really heavy word because it's ugly being just that while you stare in the mirror and dab the lotion on your scalp.

With all this said I will conquer and ride it out as should all of you who are going through this time of great worry. Be strong, be happy, surround yourself with positive thoughts - try to take positives from such a colossal negative and just RIDE IT OUT...Stick with the regimen, time will tell all.

Good Luck and God Bless !

Hang in there Sir. I have been using minoxidil for almost six months now. Liquid on ze crown, now kirkland rogaine for a little over a month on ze temples.

- It has pushed up my receding hairline higher (within 2 weeks)
The rogaine made my weak hairs fall out within a month (and maybe its still doing that), so my temples look further receded than as they where. Good news is that there is peach fuzz sprouting up to where my hairline was 5 years ago. This is very hard to see though, you will need a strong light-bulb on it and ruffle it a bit to see movement :). It should become more noticeable week by week. For you it might take a little longer then a month to see results because i was also having systematic effects from the liquid minoxidil applied five months prior on the crown. So don't focus to much on regrowth and just keep using ^^. Weak hairs falling out is a positive thing.
- Caused shedding from week 1.5 up until now (1 month)
I shedded for 4 weeks and a lil bit after. No worries, means you are reacting.

I always have (and everybody else) had dark circles under the eyes. You just start noticing it when you go looking for it. its prob nothing new.
- When I applied more then 1.5ml I would get slight heart palpitations BUUUUUT when that happens I just pump my chest and hum the wolf of wall street theme)
I would like to see that xD

This happens. You should use as little minoxidil as you can though. I use once a day 1 ml on the crown and a bit of rogaine in the front. When i used more i would get crazy facial hair upto a point of unwanted hair. I mean, my earlobes got all hairy and stuff :/. Dont use too much on the same spot!

So don't think too much about it and keep using. U will be delaying ur hair loss, possibly get some regrowth, and within a while you can prob jump on an anti androgen train. I got my hopes up for seti :). Dont go checking for regrowth every day and just have fun with your friends.

Greetings

This is my view for newbies here. You just started losing hair prob, you can delay this with minoxidil and possibly even get regrowth! The slower your hair loss, the longer minoxidil will last. From the charts i saw, it should be a minimum of two years. Look at it like this, you have two years minimum extra to jump on an anti androgen product. Since some stuff "Seems" in development, i think it will be quite likely this will happen.

Now why i don't want to jump of finasteride in the meantime? Well probable nothing happens, but the psychological distress would be enough for me to give me a soft noodle. I guess with all the stories i would always be in doubt. According to their writings, if you don't get it right away, does not mean you're home free. It could happen suddenly after a few years of no issues. Also i'm probably too dumb for this stuff, but i'm worried that fini might give you some upregulation after you quit using and probably may lessen the effect of future treatments. If i was on this forum six years ago i probably would be on finasteride though, but we newbs have an opportunity to avoid it. This is at least my take on that.

Greetings!

The glycerol based formula might have dried the hair. Minoxidil doesn't work as well as anti androgens, unfortunately. But on the other hand, it is side effect free. Generally only five percent of men will go through permanent issues with Finasteride (I don't know very much about the harder anti androgens). But thirty five percent will go through temporary side effects until finasteride is adjusted in their system.

I've always been nervous to add minoxidil to my regimen because of this. I've been told that if you're hair is largely thinning it can sometimes accelerate the process by "finishing off" the follicles that would have taken a few more years to go away. Again this is total speculation and probably BS. Chances are more likely a lot of guys start it, see a shed which means it's doing something, but stop and never realize the benefits.
