Military Basic Training With Dutasteride

Hi Guys,

I'm going to be joining the military soon and I've been on dutasteride for about 1.5 years now. I know I can't take any during my 2 months in BMT but I still have 2 questions:

1. Will dutasteride show up on the pee test? It is the only drug I'm taking and I don't have a prescription for it because I order it online. I don't want to flunk a pee test because of it.
2. Have anyone of you gone through a similar experience? How was your hair loss affected by the time off of the drug?

Thanks for the replies. Cheers.

dutasteride has an extremely long half life in the blood, with a year and a half's worth of dutasteride in your blood stream i dont think it will make much of a difference, if any at all.

Yea I don't know how you'd sneak it in. When I went I do believe they locked up basically everything you brought with you, including the clothes on your back. I can't remember if they let us keep some basic toiletry stuff or not....I dont think so as you purchase a whole new stash of toiletries there. Stuff was also subject to being gone through and searched at any time. A lot of this though could come down to what country, branch, etc you are joining, the temperament of your drill sergeants, etc

Guys, I'm not planning on taking it at BMT. I've already accepted that I'll go without it for the two months. If there is loss, so be it. I'm mostly concerned with the drug testing part and it would be cool if someone else had a similar experience and want to share it. There's a pee test at MEPS and then again when I arrive at camp. I don't want the tests to show up like a false positive for steroids or something and then having to explain dutasteride. Anybody went to boot camp with similar experience?

Dude f*** MEPS. I HATED MEPS

I don't believe they test for steroids. It's too expensive of a test. They're looking for recreational drugs

Thank you for the answer. Why is steroids testing expensive vs. recreational drugs?

I believe what he means is the dutasteride is a compound that is tested for infrequently, and hence would follow is expensive to test for.

Just list it as a medication you are taking and you wont flunk the test.People are allowed to take meds

There is an online Doctor you can go through that will write a legal script for $50. I advise caution with dutasteride as may give rise to gall stones through undiscovered indirect contraindications.

I might go this route. Can you advise me on where I can go online to get this prescription?

My friend's brother is in the army and he's been on finasteride for 3+ years.. had absolutely zero problems with it. Can't see it raising any problems for you either, once basic training is over of course. They'll be thousands of people that take preventative hair treatments in the army anyway.

Thank you. I know that the military do random drug testing on their soldiers often. Do you know if he's gone through one of these tests while actively taking the med or not?
