I meant to say do General Practitioners prescribe Propecia? I originally wrote rogaine by mistake so I deleted it. Is it really necessary to go to a dermatologist for something like this?

Are hair transplants successful these days
Yes and that is what you should do IMO because we can I guess say that at 56 your hair loss has stabilized...

You can EASILY make your crown look completely full with some concealer. My crown is WAY more thin/bald than yours, and over a much larger area too, yet after I apply the products the back of my head looks completely full. Completely.

Buy Toppik spray and fibers. On dry hair, apply the spray first as a base, let it dry for 30-60 seconds, then comb through. Repeat if needed to cover any completely bald spots (this will color the scalp). Then, apply the Toppik fibers on top of that and comb through. You'll look completely normal.

Thanks for the info. Should I apply rogaine before I apply the Toppik spray? I purchased the spray about a year and a half ago.

I know me, this thinning will really bother me unless it's real hair. lol :( Maybe I should invest some money in a hair transplant? Better yet, maybe finasteride or propecia will reverse it?

Are there any new techniques that will revolutionize regrowing thinning hair? Someone above mentioned Follica. I never heard of that before. Someone at work said science is very close to making hair growth a reality.

You are welcome to report your experience as you like.
However, please consider that most men and women here have worse hair than yours and they are <30.
You may come through as an "agent provocateur" if you do not realize the difference.

f*****g hate this, I assumed I would have hair like this when I am in my 50's because of the men in my family and my indian roots but here I am on this forum with an NW2.5 at 21.

I understand. I will be more careful.

What's the best way to log my progress on my hair? Do you usually just take photos with your Phones and log it?

Where can I go to learn about the different types of hairlines?

Thanks

I made an appointment with my doctor in a week to get a subscription of finasteride. I hope I spelled that correctly. I hope she gives it to me. She's not a dermatologist but a general practitioner.

You really have to be careful transplanting in between native hair as you can have permanent shock loss and replace native hair with transplant hairs and gain no density. Secondly, you should take Propecia now to see if you can reverse some of your loss and at the same time it will protect you from possible permanent shock loss in the future if you do get a hair transplant. You have better than average hair for your age so think about that too. I am going to meet with a rep from Follica tomorrow. It might be a newer solution for a diffuse thinner like yourself. I would try to hold off on a transplant as a last resort. You are making it a first line of treatment and I don't think that is a wise choice at this point.
Hi again. How did your appointment go? Does follica look promising?

Its clearly nw3.

nw3 at 56 years its like rocking nw1 at 30.

Dht shampoos will do nothing. You can throw it to the trash and stick to ketoconizale or caffeine shampos (nizoral or alpecin)

Using minoxidil at this age without Anti androgens is useless. Just hop even on 0.5mg of finasteride (propecia) and for sure you will maintain your status and probably regrow about 30~50% of your hair.

Thats would put you at Nw2 status which is gold at this age. Cheers

#edit:

Low quality pic but after strongly focusing on photo we can currently see lot of grey hair on frontline so i would correct myself say now NW2/2.5 which is really good but higher quality photo could do better diagnose. :)

I just purchased my new subscription of finasteride. My doctor gave me 30 pills at 1mg. I get 3 refills. :)

It does not say whether I should take this with food or not. Is there anything I should watch out for?

Can I still take finasteride along with saw palmetto?

This is my crown wet after blow drying it and putting rogaine on it. I'm bummed out. I hope the combo of finasteride and rogaine will improve it. I'm thinking positive...

Might a hair transplant be dangerous because it might kill the hair around the thinning or would it be safe?
