Meds Or Nothing At All? Advice For A 29m

Some background first. I’m a 29m, I first started noticing that my hairline rose a bit when I turned 20 perhaps. It was so minimal, I almost didnt notice. I’ve been paying attention for any changes during these years, it has receded a bit but its been so slow, it has been hard to tell. The crown area looks very good, I also think the thick hair helps overall when styling it. I measured the receded area, and seems like Ive lost around 2.5 cm/.098 inches.

Family background:
-My dad has a full head of hair at 60, it’s a mature hairline, but has no visible weak spots. Looks pretty good, like a 40 year old man’s hair or better in some cases. His two brothers and father (my grandpa) are pretty much the same.
-with my mother’s side it gets trickier. Grandpa on mom’s side had the very receded widows peak look In his late 70’s. Wouldn’t say he is completely bald, but very receded for sure. My mother only has half brothers, so I’m not sure if they count.

I’m frowning in some of the pictures to see the forehead lines as reference, in case that helps.

My question is, should I take action and get on meds or do something? Or am I being too paranoid.

You have almost the exact same pattern as me ( but I'm only 20 ) and you have definitely receded. I would say you are a deep Norwood 2. Its up to you whether you want to treat your hair loss or not because of baldness is a rarity in your family it is possible for your hair to naturally stabilize and stay this way for years. Remember you have medication options like finasteride if you feel your hairline keeps receding.

Your hair looks good as is right now, and although you have receding temples your hairline still looks pretty thick. It is a tough call. It really depends on how important your hair is to you and what you are willing to do to prevent the possibility of any future hair loss. Just taking finasteride would probably be all you would need to do, but are you willing to take it for the long haul?
