Maybe Finasteride & Dutasteride Isn't Good For Everyone

Well had a haircut. my hair grew quite long and the hair that was cut off was surprisingly thick. but that could be down to the spectral.dnc.n that i use.

Now the part i dreaded. the result, and i didn't realise how see through my hairline had got due to how long my hair had become

overall i don't know anymore. the whole thing is getting abit ridiculous and frustrating

Have you thought about dermaroller or anti androgens? They might help!

I don't know what Norwood i am, i just know that when i started this whole journey to try and stop it i had more of a hairline and thats depression.

I do derma roll sometimes yeah. and i do have some topical spironolactone 2% from wholesalehairproducts.com. i have used some today infact (quite alot actually) as an experiment to see whether the scalp tingle i have disappears or not.

I have looked online for answers and i do think this scalp tingle is a big warning sign. it can't be a positive sign at all and i am pretty sure i didn't get it before i started finasteride... maybe my receptors have accelerated or maybe its high scalp testosterone, i don't know.

If its testosterone related i am hoping the topical spironolactone will give me a hint by reducing it. otherwise i am almost tempted to stop taking dutasteride and fight it out some other way. i am confused on why i am even taking it for if reducing DHT is only half the issue and clearly the weaker link when it came to my hairloss.

i don't get any side effects, infact i might have more energy in general since taking dutasteride.

How long have you been on dutasteride? Maybe Cyproterone can help as it actually blocks the androgen receptors and lowers testosterone production. Obviously it can be dangerous but it could maybe fix your problem with hopefully bearable sides. I think its slowed my hairloss down a little bit after finasteride sped it up!

And i know thats not long but the itch is a warning sign IMO. its something i didn't have prior to taking Finasteride or dutasteride and i have read nothing that has indicated that a tingle or itch is anything but a sign something is killing your hair.

I have no side effects, my libido is average, no spots or greasy hair.

I dunno if i want to take something thats considered dangerous.

Way too early to make an assumption yes. Under supervision by a Medical Professional it is not dangerous. You may need to do something about the huge boost of testosterone dutasteride is causing, that may be whyyou are itching?

The boost of testosterone could possibly be it yeah. but then if it turns out that is whats going on, what do i do? would it really be worth continuing Finasteride or dutaseride if they were just replacing one issue with another? i ain't good at maths, let along hairloss mathatics trying to figure out what you can add or subtract to get a good result.

Well i doesn't seem like Topical spironolactone reduces the tingle itch. I did wonder whether it was because of the alcohol in the topicals i was using so i put quite abit over my whole hairline to find out... and the itch continued to be only in the thinning areas

I used nizoral last night and left it on for 5 minutes before washing it off and i guess that hasn't done anything to stop the tingle either.

I also tried tea tree shampoo as i heard its good for inflammation... didn't help either. it just seems to be the same no matter what i do

I get the tingle for a few minutes every couple of hours in the areas i am thinning before it subsides for a few more hours... i just don't trust what the tingle itch is.

Im gonna try putting some coconut oil on my scalp to see whether that calms it down. i don't know what i am hoping to achieve, i just know that if finasteride or dutasteride is killing my hairline i need to know.

Can Finasteride and Dutasteride actually speed up hairloss rather than slow/halt it then? Is that a genuine concern? I've been scouring lots of forums and people have generally said there's no way the meds can make hairloss worse. The only thing it might do is induce shedding of hair that you'd lose anyway.

For what it's worth, I was on Finasteride for about 13 years. Never noticed any real obvious changes other than that my hairloss continued but was pretty slow and gradual. I did have 3 hair transplants to replace lost native hair in the front.

I switched to Dutasteride earlier this year, just approaching 6 month mark. All I've noticed to date is very heavy shedding, enough to make me freak out (it was getting that way with finasteride too, thus changing meds). However, I've been advised that 6 months is far too short a time period to give it and that I need to stick it out for at least a year. I've not really noticed any sides - possible loss of libido. Hard to tell if that's the drug or me/age.

However, it's very concerning if the meds could actually worsen hairloss?

Do you experience an itch,tingle or the feeling of like pins and needles in your scalps?

For me that's currently my issue and I haven't been on dutastide very long. Even though I did switch from finasteride so it's not like I went in cold to this type of tablets

I have barely got through 60% of a months supply and it's scary. My hairline is taking a beating

No, I've not had any sides. Just continued (possibly increased) heavy shedding. As far as I'm aware - or been told - I don't think there's any way that the meds could worsen hairloss. Shedding is usually a sign of it working. I'm just very concerned because mine has lasted 6 months now. However, I'm being universally advised to stick it out for a year at very least.

You didn't experience any similar things with finasteride?

Well what happened with finastreride is when i first started taking it once a day i gained this hairline itch fairly quickly that i never had before taking finasteride, and my receding sped up quite abit and scared the crap out of me. so i dropped to just one every other day, and the itch went away... my hairline still receded though but not as quick as it did when i took it every day.

I stayed on one every other day for at least 5-6 months and nothing really changed.

So looking at that result... i don't know what that means. it all seems rather odd to me.
