It is male pattern baldness, balding in a classical horsehoe pattern. Sorry to say it like it is.

Thats not bad hair for 28 and since in the first pic its not even noticible this is not the reason for your GF leaving.

Hi s.a.f.

Perhaps I didn't make myself very clear...

The first pic is my best attempt at essentially a "before" pic when I didn't have any thinning.

It wasn't until a few months after the breakup that I noticed the thinning and shedding.

And no the breakup had nothing to do with my hair :) It was a situation where I guess we just got together too early in our lives and she needed to find herself.

@Taugenichts

I appreciate your thoughts, does male pattern baldness really occur that fast? Over 4-5 months? I'm just curious because I have been going to the same hair stylist for 3 years and she said she never noticed any thinning until the last 4-5 months. And also after talking with my ex who would rub or play with my hair fairly frequently said she never saw anything either.

Your hairloss/story is almost identical to mine. Get on finasteride asap, I can't stress that enough. I suffered through it too long. You might shed for a while, I did and it's a b**ch, but eventually it will thicken up. I found buzzing my head to be the best way to deal with the shedding, it stops you from staring at your head constantly, best of all you never have to comb your hair! Good luck with the hair and the girl situation, they both will get better.

My personal guess is that you have been thinning before. Just not very noticeable for the untrained eye. Probably your hair stylist just didn´t pay attention to your hair that much. Your girlfriend, too. Women in general don´t pay a lot of attention to early balding imo. Other baldies (like me :) ) are usually the ones who spot it first. Though I can´t see the thinning on the first pic myself. The angle is not appropriate in order to judge.

Fact remains: You are thinning in a classical male pattern baldness pattern and should start a Finasteride treatment.

Good Luck

That's kind of what I want to know...

If I had someone person male or female in the last 5-6 generations of my family that experienced male pattern baldness I would be like ok fine guess I just got that in my DNA deal with it....but there are none... :(

Maybe I will see one of these doctors and do scalp mapping or whatever...

It just seems weird that I notice this after what I went though and reading that trauma to your body (rapid weight loss, severe psychological stressors, etc) can cause hair loss...the thing that does worry me is the area that I'm noticing it the most (the top back)...who knows.

I do know that the hair in the sink and bed sheets was not happening before this.

Hmmm....

As I wrote before: He is thinning in a classical horsehoe pattern. Telogen Effluvium is an equal thinning all over the head.

If this is you at 28, you're doing pretty damn well. Take propecia if you're worried. But even if you are thinning, it's going so damn slow I'd be surprised if it was noticeable before you turn 35.

Looks like male pattern baldness to me, although I'm no expert. It can become aggressive rather fast, I would get on finasteride if I was you.
