I always had a bigger forehead with a hairline that slightly receded but stopped about 2 years ago. Now out of no where my hair seems to be getting much thinner on top. Is this balding? I have a video that makes it much clearer but can’t figure out how to post it here.

See a doctor. That is not male pattern baldness, something else is going on.

Thats is not male pattern baldness, looks like Telogen Effluvium to me but i would go to a dermatologist just to be sure.
I appreciate the input. Scheduling an appointment tomorrow. Thank you both for your responses, this gave me peace of mind.

Just got back from the dermatologist and he said he believes it’s male pattern baldness based off his inspection and the fact that he wasn’t seeing excessive amounts of hair coming out. Thoughts on this?

Well if a derm saw you in person and said you have male pattern baldness, i would believe him.

I would be willing to bet a small wager it's not Telogen Effluvium. Stop telling people it might be that, or is that. It's so rare that that's it's hardly mentionable. He's balding, and will have an egg like head if he doesn't get on finasteride.

I may be being too optimistic but the only reason I feel like it may not be male pattern baldness is because it happened to quickly and he didn’t test my blood or anything. All he did was quickly inspect my scalp and his educated guess was it’s male pattern baldness.

Many dermatologists happen to be a bit lazy when it comes to inspect skin or scalps.
Mine didn’t even look at my head longer than 3 seconds. I wasn’t satisfied at all with his speedy inspection. Besides that I was charged 60€ for the 3 seconds. (!)
That’s why i went to another doctor and asked him to take a closer look.
Maybe you should go try to see a second dermatologist to get peace of mind..
Just my humble opinion.

I think that’s what I’ll do. I was wanting to get my blood drawn to see if I was deficient in anything but all he did was look at my scalp like you said for about 3 seconds and said I had male pattern baldness.

Like everyone else in denial you want to believe it's something else. It's not. Your hormones have changed and have influenced the male pattern baldness Gene which is now expressing itself. Either get in treatment or wait untill you inevitably get on treatment. Sooner the better.

Doesnt mean they cant let a "specialist" check it out to be sure. Its not like finasteride doesnt have any possible sides.

I agree but I wouldn't wait, I'd be at a specialist in the next week or two. It appears to be female unpatternd diffused hairloss.

This is exactly why I want a second opinion. I’ve heard about 5 different things it could be and I want to get to correct treatment to stop it. I’m going to my doctor over spring break as this was the soonest I could get it and in the meantime I’ll be using biotin and a anti-thinning shampoo

If your doctor did not use a densitometer then you wasted your time. The best way to measure loss is with a densitometer. Your pattern does look rather suspicious and I would learn towards a diffuse pattern loss. If I were getting an opinion from a doctor, I would make sure my doctor has devices to measure my loss and progress. Just looking at someone's hair is not really quantifying the situation.

I heard finasteride and dutasteride can cause more hair loss because it increases your testosterone?
