Hello. I just recently starting noticing that I have lost hair in the frontal area and temple area. When comparing myself now to pictures of a few years back I can see a difference. It isn't to the point that most people would say "he's balding", but it is of concern to me since all the males in my family are bald. The past week or so I have been obsessing over it and it has been torture. I see that the hair at the very front of the hairline is less dense than other areas.

I have always thought to myself that I would get a transplant in order to fight it when the time came. However for now I would like to go into maintenance mode.

Can you guys suggest a topical solution or shampoo? I am probably going to pick up nizoral. What about something like revita or tricomin? Something that I can fit into my daily routine without it being too much of a headache would be great. Also, I do use styling products so any product I choose will have to allow for use of gels etc. Is there anything that works well for the temple area or hairline in particular?

I am going to talk to a doctor about what he suggests, possibly look at finasteride. I really want to try to attack this thing before it gets out of hand. Seems like this would be the right time and I would love any help you guys can give.

Thanks!

hey leapinghorse, how old are you? Is the loss only in the temples?

In my opinion, if you want to get your temples back and hairline thicker, use rogaine foam. Just apply it where you want the new hair, and where you want thicker hair. If your problem is only the front region then, IMHO, this is definatly the way to go, it will be quick and easy to do.

If your loss is more advanced then you will want to use propecia aswell, but in from my experience I do not think propecia will regrow hair in the front, especially without minoxidil.

As for revita, I use it, but I'm not 100% convinced about it. You could give it a shot, but if you start minoxidil, use nizoral instead.

Thanks alot chino. I am 27. I like the idea of the rogaine foam. I was hoping to find some type of DHt blocker that is topical. Is nizoral in this category?

I was also looking at tricomin. So many options! Hopefully I can find something soon. You yourself have used the foam? Did you find regrowth along with maintenance?

Thanks again!

Thanks again all. I went and picked up 2% Nizoral on my lunch break (OTC here in Canada) but couldn't find the Rogaine foam. I also went to a health food/homeopathic store that recommended Silica to me. It has been shown to strengthen hair, along with nails, bones and improve skin appearance. It was fairly inexpensive so I thought why not give it a try. I will hopefully grab some Rogaine shortly.

A question about Nizoral - I see some people saying they use it 2 times a week, others use it more often than that. Does this have the potential to irritate the scalp or cause damage to the hair (make it brittle, dry etc)? Should I use a special conditioner in combo with it?

Any DHT inhibitor that I should use that is topical, or is that what the nizoral is for?

Along the hairline, yes to both. I'm holding out on judgement of other areas for now (I've used it on the hairline a lot longer).

To be fair, you can screw the topical DHT inhibitor. If you really want, you could try spironolactone but I think just use minoxidil for now really. Nizoral helps with 'numbing' androgen receptors. Twice a week is enough.
