Hey Guys,

I've had a really hard time getting my scalp in healthy condition. Since, May I've realized I’m hypersensitive to PPG, and eliminated that from any part of my routine. However, after a week of no PPG, I realize that my entire scalp is still inflamed. Not as bad as when I was using products containing PPG, but still mildly inflamed. Inflammation will in turn tell the immune system to attack the hair follicles, correct? I have a feeling this is why my hairs have gone from extremely healthy (thick) to no-root hairs in less than a month’s growth.

Although DHT is an enemy, I truly believe that my scalp irritation is playing a major role in my hair loss.

Here are some noob questions:
How much irritation can Finasteride alone cause?

How much irritation can folligen (i have ordered some) or other copper peptides relieve?

What are some tricks besides nizoral that you have used to relieve an irritated scalp?

Can nizoral cause irritation?

Once a hair is rejected by a follicle from an irritated area, is that follicle presumed "dead"?

Bombscience, have you tried stopping all topical treatment for up to a week? If your scalp is inflamed you need to stop putting crap on it until it's not inflamed anymore. I went through that a few times.

If you are considering nizoral 1% a topical treatment then no, I haven't tried stopping that. I have stopped everything else however. I guess I could try that, and go back to some good old thickening shampoo. It feels better when i use nizoral. Itches for 15 minutes after the shower, but then the rest of the day it's great!

Yes, a few days won't hurt. Honestly, the nizoral has been to blame for me most often.

Yeddie's got a good idea. If you try too many new things at once, you won't know what is doing what. Add one treatment at a time, slowly, like a week between at least.

1. I've use Folligen for 6 months. When my scalp was bad irritated at the beginning, it kinda burned. That went away. Over the long run, I'd say if keeps it healthier.

2. I got generic Lidex from my derm. It comes lotion, gel and cream. It stays on overnight and REALLY calms down itching and seb derm.

3. Nizoral 1% is wonderful. The scrip version Nizoral 2% isn't necessarily better. It killed my scalp, but that's me.

Also, Aussie has a nice volumunizing shampoo and conditioner, and are not rel expensive. There's my 2-cents for the day...

Totally, I'm going to start back up little by little. My folligen & xandrox wont be here till next week. Right now all i'm on is fina, nizoral, and herbals. I'll take out nizoral for 5-6 days and see how we do. Then I'll probably add PPG free minoxidil 2x a day to start, and see how my scalp does.

That sounds great, but it might not even take that long. Just don't put anything on your scalp for at least 3 days to start, including any herbal topicals, nothing intended to be a treatment. Mild shampoo and conditioner if you use it. Also, hairspray can irritate a scalp that is already inflamed, if it hurts at all then drop that, too.

I mentioned this to you before, Bomb,. a really good conditioner helps mundo. Hair Therapy's Calming Conditioner, containing Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera, is great! I leave that on for a few minutes, rinse, and my scalp feels great. I've also heard pure aloe vera can help a lot. Hopefully it was just the PPG and this will be a thing of the past, but even still you should do your best to keep your scalp well conditioned.

Hell yeah. Is Hair Therapy something I can get a Pure Beauty store? Sorry if I've asked you this before. The only styling products that I use are Paul Mitchell Tea Tree products. Where are freaking awesome might I add, as they are all Tea Tree Oil based.

I was there to, what I did was whether the storm, I suppose I would hold off on the folligen for now because it causes increased irritation before it causes decreased, I think that you should go with one bottle of Tricomin at this point, it has conditioners aalong with the copper, tricomin will not cause an innitial increase in irritation, get the Tricomin, i was in your shoes, get the tricomin, also get emu oil, understand, go to a healfood store and get emu oil, apply that at night, there is a light at the end of this tunnel but yopu hqave to be carefull, also if you want to be a sherlock homes and do some investigatory work on the internet check out a product called wobenzym, you will find that it is a mother f****r of an anti infalamatory, safe too.

i was there too, I got through it so will you, ps. you may be allergic to the actuall minoxidil not just the ppg, wathc out for that too. ohh ya, bomb if taking an anti oxidant pill with like viamin a c e and stuff you should be fine with the immune thing.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've been reading good things about Emu Oil and its combination with copper peptides. Cosmo, how often did you apply it?

Right now i'm in scalp healing mode. I washed with nizoral last night and it seems that it doesn't irritate me. Nioxin shampoo was a bad thing for me because the 5th ingredient on the bottle is PPG, and I didn't even realize it. 2 nights ago when I washed with that, my head hated me. So! Hopefully PPG is the culprit. I'm going to not wash with nizoral for 4 days, use progain or another thickening shampoo, then I'll try out nizoral again and see what days my scalp is the healthiest on.

Here's my plan after my minoxidil, Xandrox and Folligen come in:

Week 1: Add PPG Free minoxidil 1ml a day
Week 2: If ok go up to 2ml a day
Week 3: If ok add folligen creme every 3 days
Week 4: If ok add folligen creme and spray
Week 5: If ok switch to PPG free Xandrox at night
Week 6: If ok switch to PPG free Xandrox both AM/PM

Oh yeah, and if anyone wants a big bottle of nioxin shampoo and conditioner, PM me.

Have you had iron levels checked in your blood ? Excess iron can suppress the immune system as the liver is upset by them and this can reduce immunoglobulin levels. Fatigue can be a symptom as can general mood of malaise .....

VitC supplements along with iron can exacerbate the iron effect .... and 10% of caucasians have a genetic disposition to iron overload sensitivity ut someone suggest me this products checkout for know better...http://allnutri.com/pid3013/wobenzym+n+ ... oated.aspx

Erm, my knowledge of calming the immune system in this respect is limited, this is somewhere I have not researched. However, I would recommend using Regenepure (DR, NT as well if you want) to calm the scalp. Additionally, if you take Coenzyme A (with a loading dose, ideally) and EGCG, that should really calm down the sebaceous glands and give the follicle a bit of room to breathe.

As I say I really don't know about calming the immune response, this is something I have looked into before. I would imagine a good diet and the 3 above, particularly with DHT reduction (whether potently with something like finasteride, or more mildly with say beta-sitosterol and borage oil caps) should really improve the "environment" up there!

Another brilliant shampoo I found is called Homemade Naturals Rosemary and Lemon shampoo. No ingredients for male pattern baldness like Regenepure has, but absolutely fantastic for general scalp cleansing and antifungal activity, etc. The two combined should be very cleansing :)
