Hey guys, I got a prescription for propecia today and after looking at the prices I've been looking at other options. I asked the derm about proscar and generic finasteride and she said she doesn't prescribe it because it is not for hair loss. So I went on drugstore.com and came across this:
"Although Propecia and >Proscar both contain the same active ingredient called finasteride, they are very different medicines and should not be interchanged. Proscar is a 5-mg tablet used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate gland. Propecia is a 1-mg tablet used to treat male-pattern baldness."
What do you guys think? I'm not a hair loss expert and I know some of you guys know a lot. This worries me about the effectiveness, I've seen that people on the site have had success with proscar but the fact that they are "completely different medicines" and "should not be interchanged" makes me question exactly how similar they really are. I did some googling and some say that some hair transplant doctors recommend proscar to patients looking to save money, but my derm along with drugstore.com said that proscar isn't even made for hair loss like propecia is. Even if I can get success with proscar I don't want to take it knowing propecia would give me better results. I don't know what to believe?
