Just got a prescription for Propecia

Hey guys, I got a prescription for propecia today and after looking at the prices I've been looking at other options. I asked the derm about proscar and generic finasteride and she said she doesn't prescribe it because it is not for hair loss. So I went on drugstore.com and came across this:

"Although Propecia and >Proscar both contain the same active ingredient called finasteride, they are very different medicines and should not be interchanged. Proscar is a 5-mg tablet used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate gland. Propecia is a 1-mg tablet used to treat male-pattern baldness."

What do you guys think? I'm not a hair loss expert and I know some of you guys know a lot. This worries me about the effectiveness, I've seen that people on the site have had success with proscar but the fact that they are "completely different medicines" and "should not be interchanged" makes me question exactly how similar they really are. I did some googling and some say that some hair transplant doctors recommend proscar to patients looking to save money, but my derm along with drugstore.com said that proscar isn't even made for hair loss like propecia is. Even if I can get success with proscar I don't want to take it knowing propecia would give me better results. I don't know what to believe?

It's the same drug,
5mg Finasteride = Proscar
1mg Finasteride = Propecia

Both manufactured by Merck, but Merck got granted a patent on the 1mg dosage (Propecia) which is the recommended prescription dosage for male pattern baldness in most countries. So they get to sell Propecia at crazy prices to screw us over until their patent expires in 2012. Many understanding doctors prescribe 1.25mg (5mg quartered) so we can buy generic Finasteride instead (as 5mg pills and quarter it) which costs next to nothing. Massive thanks to kind doctors everywhere and f*** you Merck for trying to exploit us you c*nts.

Not really helpful, but in my opinion any place selling prescription drugs without needing a prescription is automatically sketchy. I would get an actual prescription even if you just go to a doctor just to walk in and ask him for a prescription for propecia and buy it at an actual brick and mortar store. Counterfeits are impossible to spot by any average person maybe even pharmacists depending on how well the counterfeit pill is made. Why take extra risks?

I was not able to get a prescription from the derm, she doesn't give anything but propecia out. Has anybody gotten stuff online without a prescription?

Got another question. I was thinking about getting generic finasteride but I have read around that they are made in India would it be a bad idea to get them or should I just get proscar?
