Issues with professionally fit first system

Hi All

I had my first hair system professionally fit the other day and I'm pretty concerned with how it's attached and how it looks. I took these photos a couple of hours after I got back from the hairdressers.


First - the hairline looks really unnatural to me, with a bunch of really short hairs that look more like stubble than a hairline. I've searched for hair system hairlines online, and watched a bunch of youtube videos - none of them look like this, they all look natural.

Second - almost everywhere around the edge is loose. I'm guessing it shouldn't be like this?


As I've never had one before I have no real knowledge of what it should be like, if I'm just being overly critical.
Did the hairdressers do a bad job? Is the unit rescuable?

It's not a good job, I'm afraid. As you say, the hairline doesn't look very natural, although to be honest it looks more like a bad haircut than a hair system. Some stylists cut the front hairs very short so that they supposedly stick out like baby hairs and conceal the front edge of the system. Maybe that is what this stylist was attempting to do, but if so it hasn't worked. You are entitled to require them to do this again.

A bit of lifting is not unusual for new wearers to experience, and may mean you need a different adhesive. It doesn't necessarily mean the stylist has done the wrong thing, but obviously it does have to be fixed. You should have been warned that it might happen, and the stylist should have told you what to do if it did happen - either told you to come back to the salon, or educated you how to fix it yourself.

I suggest you contact the salon and get them to put this right.

That's lifting big time! In a few days is bad.
Looks the glue or tape they used doesn't work for you.
That isn't the salons fault however the utter crap hairline IS.
The stylist who did your hair should be sacked.

What company was it?
Name and shame them...

It looks like a thin skin / poly stock system where they totally cut into the base to make the hairline shape, which is a bad thing to do. It's better to use as much of the original factory hairline as possible- and if you're going to do any re-shaping it needs to be done much more careful than this.

The rest of the lifting around the sides and back is no big deal- with more experience and trial and error on your own you'll figure out the best attachment method for you.

Yeah, it looks like an attempt at baby hairs although a huge strip of it shows a lack of hairdressing skill. You can either go back to them and complain or simply cut your losses and fix it yourself.

You could get a razor blade You can get a small pack of safety razors from Amazon for next to nothing. You could use a knife or scissors but honestly get a 'safety razor' and from the internal side cut a new hair line (that ensures you are not cutting hair, only the poly). Not ideal as it's going to cut half an inch off the front but you can't leave it like it is.

Don't worry about the thing not sticking down, that's not a major issue as you can just tape it down yourself.

So just decide about the unit. whether to go back and raise the issues or just fix it yourself.

Chris, it is awful and I feel bad that this is your first experience of a system. My first system was bad too, but I learned quickly and adapted, not least due to the help from the guys on this forum.

As Smigeon says above, cut off that front edge first of all. I use small nail scissors and they work great. Bear in mind, when you cut UTS/poly, try to cut in a jagged/toothed style so that you don't leave a long straight edge which would be more visible.
