Is Avodart (dutasteride?) Too Strong Every Day At 0.5mg?

Hi, just interested in opinions. I have been on avodart 0.5mg a day for approx 7 months now, still get shedding mainly at hairline but can also see some thicker regrowth, the concern is the first inch of hairline is very thin compared to when was on finasteride. I got off finasteride as thought it was losing its affect but also all it ever did was give me seborrhoeic dermatitis (sore scalp etc). I don't get anywhere near as bad scalp problems on dutasteride. My question is, would reducing my intake if avodart to say 3 times a week be better for the hairline as I feel it must be the higher testosterone causing the frontal and temple thinning? Had a hair transplant on hairline 2 years ago and even some of that on avodart seems to have thinned.

Cheers

Nobody can say for sure, but @itchymadscalp would say 0.5mg is too weak. I don't think its testosterone that's causing your frontal loss.. I got accelerated hair loss at the hairline on just finasteride and have added a powerful anti androgen into my regimen to completely nuke testosterone into oblivion.. But I'm still balding just as fast as before.. I wish I had an answer for you but I wouldn't lower your dosage, that could make things even worse for you.

Thanks. I forgot to mention I tried durasteride around two years ago and the same thinning of hairline happened so I quite and got back on finasteride, it all grew back. I just kept shedding and getting terrible scalp pain etc on the finasteride so had enough and thought I'd try avodart again. Certain areas show grow back but hairline and temples really bad. Still considering reducing the dosage for a month or so and see if this helps? If not then maybe taking 1mg avodart instead of the 0.5mg?

My dht levels are the lowest they've ever been. Was tested at 0.017nmol which is like 5 ngdl very low, lower than some females apparently. Lowest I got it down on finasteride was 0.025. So it is working just seems to be worse off for some reason.

The same happened to me on dutasteride and I’ve read everything about it and hairloss that exist on this forum and everywhere else and I still have no logical conclusion why this happens. I just think hairloss is progressing and/or there is some another trigger rather than DHT.
