I am a 24 year old male with no history of aggressive hair loss in my family. Half Caucasian half asian descent. When my corners started receding at 22 i decided to start finasteride. I dont remember paying attention to hair shedding before but I can say that the shedding has definitely not decreased maybe increased since being on Finasteride for a year. The scariest part is about 2-3 months ago I started seeing way more miniaturized hairs that were shedding. I dont remember seeing so many miniaturized hairs shedding before. Maybe the odd one but not so much. This morning I saw 3 miniaturized hairs on my pillow. I also see a ton of long terminal hairs shedding as well and they shed from the non DHT zones as well. I am confused about what to do. Is this a sign that my hair loss is getting agressive. I am guessing probably so. Also, finasteride maintained or maybe even possibly made my right temple better however the left side has continued to recede on Finasteride so I dont know if it is working. I dont know what to do. Majority of the men in my family are norwood 1s or had hair loss way later in life so I am feeling very unlucky. Does anyone know what this shedding means and how to stop it? Thank you very much.

I attribute this to the fact that we have asymmetry. If we mentally divide the prostate gland into two lobes, there will inevitably be asymmetry. For example, the left side will be larger than the right. And since the prostate gland is androgen-dependent, testosterone passes through it and is converted into DHT. Accordingly, the left side will be balder than the right, since in your case, the left is balder than the right. In my case, this is exactly the case! Before HRT, I felt inflammation in the left lobe of the prostate. After HRT, I no longer feel this inflammation, and new hair has appeared on my bald left spot, although none had grown there before!

Take a look. The left side is actually thinning more than the right. Photo 1 is my left side, photo 2 is my right side. In photo 1, the hair is short and thinning. In photo 2, there is still some long hair.

Yes it does seem to be a common phenomenon. However it is interesting that the finasteride hasnt been able to stop the recession. my left temple was actually less receded however it quickly receded a couple of months ago making it more symmetrical with the right temple. What do you think about the shedding situation that I wrote about?

Finasteride is a controversial drug; it helps some people, but worsens hair loss in others.

The only thing that undoubtedly helps is the complete cessation of testosterone production with cyproterone acetate (androcur) and the replacement of the main male hormone testosterone with estradiol.

That is insane though. i think that is a very extreme method of treatment. also just out of curiosity how would finasteride make hair loss worse when it at least somewhat surpresses DHT.

Many people on this forum have written that finasteride, if used for a long time, could even worsen hair loss, if you delve into the forum's history, so they sought more extreme methods of hair restoration.

After 13 months of finasteride and 10 months of minoxidil, I can confidently say that my hair has receded by half an inch and continues to fall out at my temples. My right temple has always been much worse than my left, but, remarkably, over the past two months, my left temple has caught up and surpassed the right. It's gotten to the point where Nanogen and Dermatch are no longer effective in concealing the diffuse hair loss at my temples.

Ever since I started finasteride 1 year and 5 months ago I am easily able to pull hair out of my head from both the sides and the top. It started about the 3rd month in and really has never stopped.

just hit 6 month mark on monday...dont feel the shedding ever stopped.

might have slowed down for a while but has flared up again, if it ever slowed down.

when i shower and run my hands through my har atleast 7 hairs come out...and can repeat that quite a few times before it stops.

makes me nervous even though it can take up to 8 months before you see results.

no question it's thinner now than it was 6 months ago.
