I want to take propecia again but I got sides the first time. What would you do?

Hi all,

I took propecia for about 3 weeks and stopped because of early signs of gyno. I am lean, 12% bodyfat and workout daily. 3 Weeks into taking propecia I noticed that my nipples (especially my left one) are puffy and slightly increased in diameter. I stopped taking finasteride but I'm losing so much hair that I would like to take the pills again. What are my options? What would you do?

If I was getting gyno I would unfortunately have to give up propecia. If you decide to get back on it I suppose you could take a microdose and see if that helps.

Yeah it kinda sucks man, I really want to give propecia a try. Any other takes on this?

I agree with notcool, try like the lowest dose .25 EOD or MWF. Or just go for RU.

Try .25 a day I get 0 sides but notice my forehead is a lot less oily and I have no head itch for about 3/4 of my day.. i think I'm gonna start back on low dose since I got rid of this gyno

A couple questions Joey:
- After how many weeks/months of finasteride did you get gyno?
- Did you get rid of gyno completely?
- Looking at my pics, do you think I should try some tamoxifen or something?

If you have sides, it's better to take finasteride less often than to simply reduce your dosage.
0.25mg a day will reduce your DHT at almost the same levels as 1mg a day.

I'd try 1mg once to three times a week if I were you, that way your DHT won't be constantly lowered, it'll be less effective but it's a lot better that nothing.

Go with RU if Gyno is an issue. At any dose of finasteride, eventually that DHT will be low (that's the point of the medication), so it won't help much with worrying sides like Gyno.

Anything below 0.2 mg is pointless and won't help hair, anything above will probably still give you this side. You could try "ride it out" but that's normally for minor sides, not gyno.

It took me a solid month before my nipples got inflamed... before that was just itch and irritation.
I'd say I got rid of 85%.. i managed to lose the lumps, now I have just a thick nerve left on my left side that's it..
I think you shouldn't try any SERM or ai because you didn't develop a lump... honestly I think everyone who gets on finasteride and gains a little weight will feel it go directly to your chest.. the only thing to worry about is lumps..
I could take .25 with no nipple irritation but as.soon as I switch to .5 in not even 3 or 4 days it will be back.. finding the right dosage is vital man. The way I see it .25 is Def better than nothing + I don't get sides at all so why not

The funny thing is I actually lost weight. I was 15% bodyfat when I first started finasteride and I'm now 12% so there's really no reason for my nipples to be puffy :/.

this might be random... but when you gain weight.. does the weight go to your love handles?... my biggest problems is my love handles and hips (female fat areas). most of my chubby guy friends just have a pot with no love handles.. i think maybe people whos fat gets dispersed like females may be more at risk of gyno from finasteride.. sounds confusing but try to understand, would be interesting to really know

I did one while on finasteride and everything came back normal.. estrogen was just in high average range... im guessing that's enough for gyno when you consider all my test is aromatic ing into estrogen due to the blockage of dht
