That's good. Think spironolactone also comes in a topical form.

There is a government study on spironolactone versus Progesterone for hair loss in women.

spironolactone actually did a better job. But Progesterone helped.

I have a topical its spironolactone and estrodial.

I still might do the PRP and Acell but I am waiting until after March because their is supposed to be a presentation to association of dermatologist...my Derm i saw is a specialist in Alopecia at Columbia U hospital--its all she does really--she told me to wait until March she would have more accurate data at this presentation as to getting her opinion on it.

Okay so time for an update

I slacked on Iron for a while...and i have some short hairs cycling/shedding...so i am assuming connection here.

so next few weeks going to take the amount of Iron my Dr prescribed me and be more faithful and focused on it.

But other than that all is going good.

I have to be vigilant with the Iron to get it up over 70

I am shedding short hairs (hair is short cycling)..I have not had that in a long time its just past few days--but its a lot of them.
My long hairs are shedding also--but those never stopped (long hairs don't concern me like the short hairs)

This is one of those times you have to sit and 'wait'

It's one of several things.

1. Its because my ferritin dropped..It is very hard for me to keep my ferritin up...i got it up from 10 to 60 in about 6 months. My Dr wants it over 70..so he upped my dose to 4x a day...I think because i had such great results with Minoxidil i slacked off on the iron..so i was not taking it some days, other days i was taking 1 or 2..so it may have dropped as Im anemic so its not going to stay 'up' w/o supplements--so dumb on my part. Im back to 4x a day starting today.

2. I have been on minoxidil for now about 5 months. I have been a good responder. It could be because the minoxidil is cycling my hairs--I have read this happens to some BUT I don't know if it's the short hairs or just long hairs when this happens--I am shedding a lot but I am not sure if it is as much when i had the 2 week 'dread shed' maybe it is that much.
I do think i am seeing some follicles on my scalp where new hairs are coming (but this is tricky to tell for sure--IF it is then i should see those coming in within a week or two.

3. Just good old fashioned hair loss/DHT damage progressing....I am pessimistic so of course i think this but realistically it would be such a coincidence to happen just when I messed up my iron. And why would so many short hairs shed at once? I don't know if it would work that way suddenly--it's not like i stopped Minoxidil or topicals.

I will have to be patient and see how it goes over next week or two..if its cycling hair then i should see some thicker ones coming in..(PRAYING), If its iron it may take a while to have an effect. I go for a blood test in another month or so Im going to work hard to get my Ferritin up and keep it up. Lesson learnt.

Where did you get the estrodial? Not that I would take it...

Then again, I want my hair back!

Do you have a medical condition that leeches the iron from your blood, or have you just avoided high iron foods over the years without realizing it?

My brother-in-law has to take iron injections, but his is an extreme case. He had a lot of surgery on his digestive system in his early twenties, due to cancer.

My primary Dr said it's idiopathic. It's called ferritin-anemia. So hemoglobin is fine but my stores deplete.
My short hair shedding is better today.

I feel like i have pretty good regrowth--BUT a lot of it came in so skinny i hope they shed and cycle thicker.
I'm not sure if that can happen without finasteride/oral anti DHT.

Im not comfortable giving out my Dr name I am sorry.

They sell spironolactone here on the site with estrodial it's just not a spray version but its same ingredients and probably same strengths/ratios..You can just copy the ingredients list or print it out and talk to your Dr. to see if he can have something pharma for you OR you can contact Murray Avenue Apothecary and see if they can compound something for you.

I think minoxidil is working well...my hair line is coming in denser and lowering a smidge...

I still have spots (small spots) where i am missing hair and part is still wider then I would like BUT better from where I started so i am happy.

Hopefully something will come out that is neogenesis in a year or two to aid those spots..

I wish i had guts and knowledge to do derma rolling but i am chicken to experiment on myself like that.

The quality of Murray is going downhill. Have to be honest.

Have you gotten medication from them recently (compounded).

The bottle size is much smaller. When I asked the owner, she referred to the lab manager (weird).

The lab manager said the long bottles were currently on hold until May. And it was the same.

The bottle size is almost an inch smaller, and it isn't as wide. I think I'm going to try Klein.

Just an update

its 6 months on Minoxidil and 7 months topicals.

I am doing really well..the only spots that did not thicken as much as I would have liked were the spots that got thin first/longest...those did get new vellus hair and some normal scalp hair..but not as filled in as rest did.

I'm really pleased...i do have periodic shedding of small hairs which panics me as well as long hairs but the regrowth continues so its fine.

In sunlight my scalp looks denser..my hair line lowered a fraction. my baby hairs came in super thick and some grew out to be long normal hairs...my widows peak is even fractionally lowered.

i did get darkening of facial hair--was not sure what to do about it finally I went for Threading...i considered laser (too fine), tested waxing (wax is too strong for under eye)--I found Threading was fast, cheap and efficient..i will keep posted how it grows back if any problems.
SO don't let face hair darkening keep you from Rogain/minoxodil.

I think I have for now at least a moderate success story..if anything changes negative I will come back on and update.

I saw my dermatologist today who I am also friends with socially--she was impressed by my regrowth from minoxidil which I did not even ask her opinion but she offered it which is nice.

She is doing PRP (no acell) for about a year on patients and she is having good results I did not go too deep into it with her but i think i may do it with her in Fall instead of hair transplant Dr because I know she is trustworthy because I have been friends with her for so many years and she is also not a bullshit artist...I am going to get deeper into a discussion with her next time I see her...She never pushed PRP on me because she knew I was seeing another Dr--but she has been doing it now long enough to have judgment on it...When she started doing it she was not sure what the results were going to be.

I figure by Fall i will be maxed out on regrowth with Minoxocil so it will be a good time to 'judge' if PRP is effective.

But thrilled so far with my results already from minoxidil.

It's good to hear you're responding to minoxidil, may I ask for how long have you been losing hair before starting rogaine?
And can you ask your dermatologist friend how they prepare the PRP because I've done a few treatments with no results and I want to know what are the differences between effective or non effective treatments, or whether I'm just not responding at all?

(I edited this to be more sure)

I have Androgenic alopecia and anemia.
Androgenetic Alopecia confirmed by biopsy and ferritin anemia in blood work.
My Androgenetic Alopecia is deemed 'early' on pathology report.

I have been taking iron for 6 months and got my ferritin up from 12 to 60.
I have been using topical spironolactone with estrodial and melatonin now for about 7 weeks.

I noticed the past 2 weeks my hair shedding has decreased..I 'think' i see some new growth- it's not cosmetically different but when i look in magnifying mirror i see new hairs were i did not see before. Only time will tell what they do. I think active hair follicles is good sign.

I had a lot of short cycling hair this Summer (grows an inch and falls out with white club) this hair loss has slowed down. My hair feels more rooted than before.

I cannot tell for sure if it is the topical spironolactone I am using or that my ferritin is up higher causing the positive changes. Maybe both.

Im going to continue the topical spironolactone spray and i have added 5% minoxidil foam 1x a day.

I am also doing Keto shampoo few times a week and hairmax laser comb (i doubt this is working much)

My thoughts are to stick with this until January/February and possibly switch to oral spironolactone.
I wanted to try topical first to see how i respond.

Hair loss is weird so i have no idea if my positive results are temporary or not..Also i am sure the minoxidil may start to effect shedding going forward from what i have read.

Good for you. I've really heard lots of GOOD things about spironolactone with women. With men, not so much (that is to say not without some
nasty side effects). I'll leave it at that.
