As pointed out by zzzzz, topical spironolactone is a very weak anti-androgen and it is unlikely to work as a stand-alone treatment. As far as I'm aware, it is not even proven yet that it even works at all as an Androgenetic Alopecia treatment. As for oral spironolactone, it is very dangerous and can have some very serious side-effects. You need to start using finasteride if you really are serious about winning the battle against Androgenetic Alopecia. Until a successful topical anti-androgen eventually comes out (and yes, it would have to be WAY more powerful than the likes of spironolactone), the only thing we have that actually really does work for hair loss is finasteride or dutasteride. Nothing else really works in all honesty. spironolactone (along with all the rest of that topical stuff) is in my opinion a big waste of your time and money. My advice is to stick with what actually works. In other words, finasteride.
