i just noticed my hairloss a week ago. at first it was a tiny bit but its been getting worse daily. the top of my head has way less hair than just a week ago and im losing hair at my temples too. this sucks because im only 18. do you guys think ill be able to grow it back successfully? ive set up an appointment with a dermatologist but its a month from now. any help or advice is appreciated.
Steady on fellah!
In the vast majority of cases balding happens a lot more slowly than what the sufferer expects it too, the chances are it's the same with you.
Most people lose most of their hair within one week of noticing they're losing it FACT!
Except they don't really, they just look more, panic more, the mind plays tricks, new angles are found and new lighting conditions to make the things look worse, before you know it that mild bit of recession is a diffuse norwood 6 and your looking forward to the day you can cash in your pension because at least everyone else will have a hairline like yours (okay you'll have to get through graduation first in your case).
The mind can play brutal tricks when people first notice hairloss, people rarely judge their rate of hairloss correctly at first.
A lot of people lose their hair at the temples, it's normal and can be seen as heading towards a mature hairline, if you're losing it at the sides then it's pretty normal, if you're losing it on the top of the head near the temples, ie heading towards a norwood 2 then i'd kick into action over it.
Whatever treatments you get on, you could be commiting to them for life.
Bearing in mind it can cost a lot of time and energy to fight hair loss, it's probably best to add 1 or 2 treatments at a time. There's no need to use Nizoral daily and there's no need to add spironolactone.
If you use propecia it's going to take three months to see whether or not it's working at least do that (using 1mg a day) rather than commiting to spironolactone as well.
Personally I'd lay off the rogaine as well to start with, rogaine is like a turbo booster for your hair it doesn't stop hairloss, so you wouldn't be able to tell if the propecia alone was halting your hairloss, it would IMO be best to know that you've tackled the underlying hairloss before going for any regrowth (other people might have different opinions on this).
You're young this has come as a shock to you, so you want to do every thing you can at first. I don't blame you I'd have felt the same, but believe me you should be alright taking it more slowly.
