How Do You Store Spare Or Future Units?

I need to start keeping my pieces in a better way. A dedicated box which I will lock.

Does it matter if I use the plastic thing it arrived attached to? (scalp like shaped plastic). Do I just keep old pieces dry, after being washed!

What is the best way to store these?

I keep mine in ziplock bags with the air squeezed out and in a dark place. The all-lace ones seem to last pretty much indefinitely. In the past I have sometimes ordered thinskin tape patches or a thinskin horseshoe around the back and sides of my lace pieces for attaching tape to. Those thinskin areas do eventually deteriorate and crack, although it takes a long time. The pieces I have noticed it on are probably a couple of years old - they are units I have worn and then kept as back-ups after their time was up.

In an airtight or a cotton zip bag in a draw or dark place (wardrode) and check once every few months.
As Noah said they can last a long time without loss of quality.
