How Do We Define Aggressive Hair Loss?

I would say from my experience of what I observe is the average Norwood for 40's is a NW3.

Really? I don't know. I'm talking between 35 - 48.

Haven't seen any guys in between. I'm actually that, but I take a lot of hair medications.

There were some full heads, but twenty five percent. But mostly Norwood fours. Some though, have
it very aggressive (Norwood five or higher).

That said, I've never really seen men in between. No Norwood twos at all in that age group.

Every place is different though.

Its when your hair loss progresses extremely fast. Aggressive hair loss is completely different than premature balding, but they usually go hand in hand. Some people can have aggressive hair loss hit them even in their 30s or 40s, and some people have gradual hair loss that starts at 18. More common to see the aggressive hair loss when the male pattern baldness starts younger though.
My dad didn't start really balding til his 40s, but when it hit it hit super fast. He went from a NW2 to a NW5 within like 4 years. I was unfortunate enough to start losing my hair at 19, but it really kicked in when I turned 20, and went from a NW1.5 to NW2.5 in less than a year (and half that time was on finasteride). When it first kicked in hydro-gear I had miniaturized hairs like a half inch back all over my hairline. Finasteride slowed it down atleast, but wasn't strong enough to stop it.

I dont know if going bald younger is that bad anymore. You have a very good shot at seeing some new good treatments show up in the next 10 years.
Dude c'mon...they've been saying that for the past 15 years
Also for most of us younger people, we can't wait 10 years, let alone 10 months. In 10 years I'll be completely bald at this rate (and thats while on finasteride).

The older you get, the less ostracized you will feel for advanced norwooding, and the more the perpetual fullheads will be a minority

I'm noticing around my age group, late 20's-early 30's seems to be a 50/50 stage, with about half still NW1-2, and half hitting NW3-4 hard. Still not many NW5+'s though....the ones hit with that special hell before middle age are in a category of their own

Depends on where you live. I live in an area of highly populated hispanics and the Puerto Ricans remain NW1 to NW2 well into their 60's and above. And for some reason the Caucasians keep most of their hair too. I am sure in the UK, you would see more balding men in between 35 to 48. In the area where I live, not many guys take Propecia for hair loss. Or at least admit they do.

Just curious about your dad. Any history of diabetes or heart problems? I have seen people's hair decline fast later in life if they develop medical issues. Unfortunately, no matter how old you are, you can still go from a low Norwood to a high one in a short amount of time. There is no cut off to say you escaped it.

Nope, high bp but he has had that since his 20s. Probably partially stress related that sped it up because lost job and my parent's were splitting up around that time. Not sure though. Also, I know he had like serious BPH issues within like 5 years of his hair loss, and was put on dutasteride/finasteride for BPH in the past few years, so it is possible his DHT was going through the roof at that point. But not really sure, I don't ask questions about it.

Ok, that makes more sense. He did have issues that could have sped it up. You don't see too many older man all of sudden going from a full head of hair to almost completely bald without some explanation.

I think I have something characteristic of aggressive hair loss. In about 11 months I’ve gone from an NW1 to an diffused NW3. And I’m 21.
