Hi there,

I've been wearing hair systems for a few years now. About 3 months ago I purchased a new one and have been wearing it since. After some discoloration I colored it to blend well with my own hair color (something I've done with hairpieces before, was always fine), ever since that coloring proces the hair has completely lost its texture. I've tried conditioners, shampoos and serums but none of it seems to work. I read good stories on the products of NearlyNatural's, so I tried the hair softening solution and soy conditioners but also these didn't do anything. I don't know what to do. Every time I wash it instantly tangles even after fully combing it through. The hairpiece is made from human hair with a poly base that goes all around, no lace since I wear my hair down.

I have no idea what to do anymore, any advice?

Best, Thom

Hi Thom

The Nearly Natural range of products are very good, and if they have not been able to make an improvement your piece is in a pretty bad state. There is only one remedy I have heard of which might work, and I have never used it myself. It's called a bleach bath, which is a scary name, but I have seen other posters say it works. Here are the instructions: http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/bleach-bath-for-tangling-weaves_topic33221.html

Try this at your own risk. If it works, follow up with some argan oil conditioner. If it doesn't work, I'm afraid I think your focus should be on getting a replacement system asap.

A hairsystem ought to be able to take being colored without becoming degraded, so it sounds like maybe that unit had over-processed hair to begin with. Did you change supplier since the previous occasion when you colored your unit successfully?

Hi Noah,

Thanks for your reply. I read about this bleach bath and saw a bunch of videos on it on YouTube. It looks promising but In my case I'm afraid the bleach/amonia will be too harsh on the poly base. I'll see if I can find an older hairpiece and do a try out with that one.

I've been with the same supplier since I've started wearing hairpieces.

I think that the supplier is using pretty poor quality hair as its misbehaving beyond normal expectations. I would think that 3-months is no time at time. Im on 4-month and my system is as good as week 1.

If you are in the UK then you can try Johnsons No tangles baby conditioner. Apply it as you use a wide tooth comb or vented brush to the hair. Leave overnight in a bag and wash under the tap taking care to keep water flowing in the same direction and combing.

If after its still tangled get a new piece from a different supplier.
